ten | run-of-the-mill days

"Can you hear me?" a muffled voice said.
"Ẇ̷̼̝͕͇̫͛̔́̚ą̵͚̘̤͐̂̌̽k̵̟͙̜̊̏́͗̈ë̵̦̪͇̺͔́̏̎ ̸̛̜͐̽̒̽͗u̷̫̫͈͝p̵͚͇̺̃.̷͔̤̬̓"

Your eyes opened.
You arose to your father standing in the doorway.

"I will be leaving for work. Can you take care of your siblings for me?" he requested as he hurriedly buttoned his shirt.
You nodded your response and averted your eyes to the clock. You watched the time go from 4:52 to 4:53 AM.

You bid your father goodbye and got out of bed.
As you were showering, you immersed yourself in your thoughts.
You thought about what you were going to make for breakfast, lunch, and your friends.
However, there was something else about today that you could not wrap your head around. Albeit you did not know what it was.

You swaddled your body tightly with a soft towel and exited the washroom.
You proceeded to slip on your school uniform and dried your long locks of hair.

After preparing all the food needed for the rest of the day, you went ahead and awoken the pesky duo up.

It was a run-of-the-mill day. They did their routines as you ate. They left to catch the school bus and you would leave a bit after to walk to school.

And yet something occurs that is not so run-of-the-mill.
One of the two forgot their lunch, hence them missing the school bus and having to return home.

You awaited for them just outside the front door.
"Hey, can one of you turn off," they sped past you mid-sentence, "...the lights?"

You heaved out a sigh and strided towards the light switch.
You froze.

The mere sight of the switch triggered something in you. You flinched as your hand grazed the said object. Your heart pounded against your chest as you swallowed the lump in your throat.

Click.

Nothing happened.
You were puzzled over your own actions. Why did you get so overwrought over a light switch?

"(Y/N), what's taking so long? Aren't you going to walk us to school?" your sibling's voice snapped you out of your trance.

You faked a smile.
"Indeed. I was just thinking."

They left you be and so your smile vanishes.
You wished to find out whatever it was that prompted that reaction out of you.
