More Addictive Than A Drug

On my laptop, eating pizza I'm casually spending my morning. Looking for... uh an extra job. Yea, that.

It's not like I have a choice. I can't get that kind of money in a week and I'm not gonna ask anyone for it. I have to get back into the field. Just one job should be enough.

Matt called me earlier. Asking if I'm ok and safe. I wouldn't say safe but I am ok, for now. He's going on a bussines trip for a few days since I bailed on him.

And that is the perfect situation.

I haven't done this in a while. In two years actually. Since Ava begged me to stop. The same day I took her down with me.

Thought I found a way out. But I guess once you're in, there's no going back.

Seems like the market hasn't changed much. In fact, it has grown since I was away.

There are a few suitable close options and they pay around the same.

I spent a few hours figuring out the stories and the blames, untill I picked out a target.

Christopher Kohl, 29 years old,
Married, has a 6 year old daughter
Black short hair, slightly darker skin, around 95 kg, 1.72m, works as a machanic, doesn't earn a lot.
Wife Kelly claims that he has been sleeping with random sluts, taking money from the house to drink most of the nights, raising a hand against her and their daughter.
15,000€

Simple enough and pays enough.

I marked it and a few hours later the woman wrote to me. She seemed really scared and my name didn't help with that. I told her to meet up, talk and figure things out at the restaurant later today. Asked her to bring everything with her.

It doesn't bring me joy to be back dealing with this shit, but I guess there are worse things. Like uhh.. explaining myself to Noah and Aubrey. I should be scolded so bad...

"Look who showed up." Aubreys face looked pretty surprised and ugly as always.

"Missed you too, sweetheart." I winked walking past her.

"Avery! You're back and alive?" Noah jumped me.

"Uh yea.. long story that I know you want to hear." I smirked.

"Exactly, spill everything." He hugged me.

I told him most of the things that happened to me, but ofcourse I left out my meeting with Aiden. Noah doesn't need to know anything about that.

We talked for a few hours, served some customers. I skipped less then a week and it already felt weird being back. I enjoyed my fancy life with Matt. Maybe I should have stayed, but I would have too many security eyes on me.

It's 16:45 and a simple looking blonde lady showed up, holding a little girls hand. That must be Kelly and her daughter. The woman looked older then she should, her skin wrinkled and greyish, it's clear that she has been abused.

She seemed uncomfortable, like she doesn't belong here. And she did look out of place.

She sat at the bar, as I have instructed her to. Her hands flat on the counter, waiting for me.
