"Did you go somewhere last night?"

You groan, rolling over in the bed, belatedly realizing that you're not colliding with Abbey's body halfway through your roll. "Mhph," you blink, lifting your head with a great amount of effort as you scan the room for your friend. There's a light on in the bathroom.

Abbey pokes her head out, "I had to pee in the middle of the night - shouldn't've drank so much - and you weren't in bed."

"Huh -oh!" you say, your heart jolting you little bit into awareness as you remember exactly where you went last night. "Just, uh.. for, um. For a walk."

"A walk, huh?"

"Ye-ep," you say slowly as you sit up, rubbing your eyes absently.

"And you just happened to get a number while you were walking around in the middle of the night," Abbey says, her eyebrows lifting pointedly in the direction of your arm.

"Uh, wh- um, what are you-?" you start, then look over at your bare arm, Lynn's number exposed to the air. Your sleeve must've rolled up in the middle of the night. Shit. "It was just some sexy ghost?" you try anyway with a shrug.

"Some sexy insomniac you mean!" Abbey says, gasping dramatically as she crosses over to the bed and seizes your arm, "Oh! Was it your mystery hottie?!"

"Yeah," you say, hoping your words are dripping with enough sarcasm to hide the fact that you're not even close to lying, "Absolutely it was my mystery hottie - out of all the people who could be walking around after midnight on the ship, it was my mystery hottie that I just happened to run into. Sure Abbey."

"So it was her!" she squeals, "Man, you are so bad at lying, Y/N!"

Fuck, you swear inwardly. But she doesn't have to know it's Lynn. "Okay, fine, fine, you caught me," you lift your hand, tugging your sleeve down over the number once more. "I went up on deck last night because someone rudely woke me up from a nice deep sleep, and she was up there. Okay, you happy?"

"Yes!" Abbey says, punching a fist in the air, "Give me all the details - no, no! No, wait! Text her first, then deets."

Okay. Tread carefully Y/N. "I kinda.. wanted to text her by myself," you try. You know it's useless to go for that argument, but even still. Gotta try all avenues of deflection first.

"After watching you try to form sentences around her for real?" she practically scoffs, and it stings a little bit, but you can't even deny that you were a useless gay mess around her the first time she bumped into you. For good reason, you realize now, Because it was Lynn Gunn, whose sex appeal is just through the roof.

"Fine!" you toss a hand up in defeat, "Look," you tap out a quick, "Hi, it's Y/N." and proceed to wave the screen in Abbey's face.

"What?" she folds her arms in disapproval, "Did you not get her name last night or something? C'mon, are you even trying to woo her?"

You shrug, "Maybe she just wanted to remain a mystery hottie."

Abbey taps a finger against the elbow, raising her eyebrows in disbelief. "Yeah, okay. How about you try again?"

"How about I just don't want to tell you her name, Bee?" you snap, perhaps a little too harshly. But you need to get Abbey off your back, you can't have her finding out that Lyndsey Gunnulfsen is on this ship. She'd freak. Hell, you were still freaking.

"Whoa, whoa. Okay," Abbey lifts her hands up, "I'm sorry, okay? I thought you'd wanna spill everything about your crush - I was just teasing you, that's all."

You sigh, putting your phone in your back pocket for the time being. "I know, I'm sorry too. And, I do, you know? I want to tell you about her. But I... it's not a good idea right now, I don't think."

"Oh my god, it's not Hayley Williams somehow, is it?" she gapes at you, "Like she was in disguise or something?!"

You laugh, partly because it's ridiculous of her to assume that it's Hayley and partly because she's not far from the truth about it being someone famous. "I don't think she's into girls, Abbey," you say instead.

"Yeah, pretty sure she has a boyfriend hanging around this ship somewhere," Abbey says with a shrug, "It was just a crazy thought anyway."

"Not so crazy...," you say slowly, knowing it's a dumb idea to even insinuate anything that Abbey will instantly latch onto. But god do you ever want to spill the beans about Lynn Gunn thinking you're cute to your best friend.

Abbey, as expected, grabs your shoulders at your tone. "Exactly what do you ever mean by that?!"

Your phone buzzes in your pocket just then. It's Lynn's response - the cell service is only local to the ship so there's no way it could be anyone else. "Just," you put a finger up giddily as you partially turn your body away from Abbey, "One sec, okay?"

Abbey nods, releasing you and stepping back, even though you can see her dancing from foot to foot out of the corner of your eye as you read Lynn's text. "Morning :) Did you sleep okay last night?"

"I did," you reply, nearly choking in giddy excitement as you tell yourself that this was really happening. "I almost couldn't find my room after I left though, security had to help me."

"That's too bad, we could've gotten lost together ;)"

You nearly drop your phone - god this is insane - at the flirtatious emoji on your screen. A loud whining noise escapes your throat unbidden. "Ohhh okay, holy fuck."

"What?! What'd she say?!" Abbey bounces over your shoulder, still trying to respect your privacy but also curious as hell. And after the gay screeching noises you just made, you definitely can't blame her.

You debate for a split second, then cave, realizing that there's absolutely no way that you'll be able to keep this from Abbey. "I kinda got lost on the way back from her room-" you start, and Abbey positively shrieks.

"HER ROOM?!"

You smack her, blushing hard. "It's wasn't like that, it wasn't a walk of shame!!"

"Okay, fine - besides, why would you leave a hottie like that?!" Abbey says, then grabs your shoulders again, shaking you, "Why did you leave her in the middle of the night in the first place? If you'd texted me telling me that you'd landed in bed with the blonde-"

"I told you, Bee, it wasn't like that!"

"I would've told you to stay with her until the cruise ended!" Abbey finishes, overriding you.

"Y/N?" your phone buzzes again. "Still there?"

You look down at your phone, debating some more, feeling panic and excitement crawl up your throat all at once. You're sure you're going to explode if you don't tell someone. "Bee," you start slowly, trying to control your voice. "Can you save a table for me at breakfast? I need to make a call, but I'll be right up. Promise."

Abbey stares at you for a long moment, then just nods. "Do whatever you gotta," she says, then leaves, swiping her key off the counter as your remind her absently.

With a shaking finger, you dial Lynn's number.
