"Matt! Wake up! Get ready for the Choosing!" yelled a voice from downstairs. Matthew woke up so fast he pushed off his blankets to the floor. He muttered a quiet," Oh shit," and kicked the door open. He went down the polished wooden stairs two stairs at a time, and landed on the floor with a big CRASH!! His brother, Mervin, looked up from his oatmeal cereal and smirked, then went back to eating his cereal.

Matthew hurried to the refrigerator and grabbed the bowl of fruit, snatched the box of cereal away from his brother, ignoring the "Hey!" He quickly moved through the kitchen, finding a clean bowl and pouring milk and cereal into it. He grabbed a spoon and went back to the table. He started it the cereal, and he could vaguely here his mother saying, ".....big day today Matt. I can't believe it! I hope you get a good job....."

After he swallowed his breakfast, he ran to the sink and brushed his teeth and combed his hair. He checked his reflection and once he was satisfied, he went back to the living room. He went back upstairs and grabbed his clothes and got dressed. He went back down and went out the door. He could faintly hear his parents shouting after him, "Where are you going?" but ignore it. He walked down the paved stone road and reached his friend Jordan's house. He rang the doorbell and saw his friend looking down from the window.

"Morning Jordan! Ready for the Choosing?" Matthew shouted, looking at Jordan.

"Maybe!. Do you want to come in?" Jordan answered.

"Yeah, that would be great."

"Wait a mo"

Then the door opened to reveal Jordan standing there. "Well, this isn't the best house, but it's comfy enough. Come on in."

                                                                                      ~~~~~~~~
As Matthew and Jordan walked down the paved road together, they talked about what they would do if they weren't chosen. ".....think the only choice is to be a farmer so....." Jordan was saying, "I mean, there's no other job except being chosen as a magician's apprentice...." Matthew laughed. "The chance of that is very thin. There hasn't been an apprentice magician in 5 years. And I think working as a farmer will be easier..."
As they talked, they saw The Great Castle. They both turned to each other and grinned. They were both thinking the same thing. "Race you to the castle, " shouted Jordan, and ran off. "Hey!", yelled Matthew, "Wait up!" and ran towards his friend.
