"Call it again," Scott told Stiles as Lexie tried to call Derek again. She was the only one close of enough to her dad that he could trust right now. Erin was doing the best she could to keep Peter as far from Lexie as possible, having told him after she found out he was Alpha that he was retraumatizing her all over again. Not that it seemed to deter him from disrupting her life anyway.
"It's not here." Lexie hit end on her phone, sick of leaving voicemails.
"Okay, so you lost your phone. Why don't you just get a new one?" Stiles asked him as Scott dove down to the floor to check under his bed.
"I can't afford a new one. And I can't do this alone. We have to find Derek," Scott replied.
Stiles watched him running around from the desk chair he moved to the middle of the room as Lexie leaned against his dresser. "Well, "A", you're not alone. You have us. And "B", didn't you say Derek walked into gunfire? He sounds pretty dead."
Lexie smacked him upside the head for that one. He needed to stop killing Derek off in his mind already. Scott answered, "Argent's plan was to use him to get to the Alpha - they're not gonna kill him."
"All right, so then just let them do what they're planning, you know? They use Derek to get Peter - problem solved."
"Problem not solved," Lexie told him. "That would mean the death of my dad and my cousin. And my dad is willing to use anyone to get to the people responsible for what they did to him. Allison would make a great target for that. Scott-" she tried to stop his incessant running around. "I'm going to hang out with Allison all afternoon tomorrow after school and we'll be watching everyone at the dance."
"You know, you probably lost it when you two were fighting. You remember that, when he was trying to kill you, after you interrupted him trying to kill Jackson? Are you starting to see a pattern of violent behavior here?" Stiles shot back a look at Lexie, who just shook her head at him. He hadn't seen her violent yet.
Scott stopped. "He wasn't going to kill anyone. And I'm not letting him die."
"Could you at least think about letting him die? For me?" he asked.
Grabbing at his shirt collar, Lexie pulled him back so he could look at her. "You suggest Derek dying one more time Stiles, I'll show you how violent a Hale can get-" she softened- "Stiles, with the way my dad is now... Derek's all I have left of that side of my family."
There was a tire squeal, Scott and Lexie looking to the window. Stiles adjusted his shirt, looking apologetic, as he asked, "What?"
"My Mom just got home from work," Scott replied.
"Hi. It's me. Melissa Mccall. I'm - giving you a call. That always sounds really weird because of my last name, Mccall. So - yeah. Um - You know, I was just wondering if maybe you wanted to reschedule dinner or lunch. It doesn't have to be dinner. Lunch is good. Or maybe you would like to do coffee, or maybe you're a tea drinker. I don't know. You know, we could also just go out for drinks. Yeah, 'cause I think I need a few after this profoundly embarrassing phone call. So if this really doesn't freak you out too much after this disastrous call, feel free to, um, give me a call."
"Is she okay?" Stiles questioned them. "What's she doing?"
"Crying." Lexie's heart broke, her body slumping to the floor. "It's his fault. My d-" she couldn't even get the word out. If she said it, she knew she'd cry. She couldn't cry in front of them. Not now.
"You two can't protect everyone," Stiles said, looking between his friends.
Scott slumped down on his bed in front of him. "We have to."
