Chapter 5
We start driving down the road, passing great fern trees, every once in a while passing a small house or two. I notice we start getting closer to town because the houses are getting closer together. Eventually we pass a sign that reads 'Downtown' with a yellow dagger on it, I'm guessing it's suppose to be a yellow knife, ha. ha. ha. What a fun pun. I roll my eyes.
As we pass a few buildings I unplug my headphones, and start listening to mom and dad's conversation.
"Well Honey, how much longer?" Mom asks. "Well babe I think this is it."
We finally pull up to a small car lot, that has about fifteen different cars with at least five of them being rusted and busted windows. I spot a red truck in ok condition I immediately know that Avery will choose that one.
Dad parks in front of the small tan building. Soon a skinny man with a curly mustache emerges from the building. Dad get's out of the car and enwraps the man in a giant warm embrace. We all watch as dad and the man chats. Mom get's out the car and walks up to dad. The man then embraces mom in giant hug. After a few more seconds of chatting, they both point at us.
Austin: (That's our cue Avery)
Avery and I slowly get out the car. "Jerry, these are our two sons Austin is this one." Dad points at me, I walk over to Jerry and shake his hand. "Nice to meet you." He says and I nod. "And this tall guy is Avery." Dad slams his hand on Avery's shoulder. Avery grabs Jerry's hand and shakes it.
"So your dad here says you two are looking for a car, I'm glad to say I have the best cars in town." I look around.
Austin: (Well I hate to see what the other guys have)
Avery releases a small chuckle, fortunately Jerry doesn't hear, but unfortunately mom does, which results in smack to the back of my head.
"So guys do you see anything you like?" Dad asks.
"How about that red truck?" Austins says.
"This baby here is a 2000 Chevy Silverado. It's got about 80,000 miles on it." We all stand admiring it.
"Do you like it son?" "I love it actually!" "Well then it's all yours." "Okay! Well we can do the paper work inside just follow me." Jerry starts to head to the building. "Austin while we do the paper work you can find you a car." I nod and turn around and start my journey.
I pass by several plain and ugly cars, I soon realize that I have checked out every single car. "Damn, all these are terrible!" I whisper to myself. Oh great! I'm going to to have to drive a car I don't like!
I hear some noises coming from the back of the building, I already get into a warrior mindset, and form a ball of fire, ready to attack. I slowly edge my way to the back.
I see a man hidden under a strange, but appealing lime green car. I release the fire ball allowing it to evaporate in the air. I stand there listening to the boy curse under his breath. After a few minutes of monitoring the boy I decide to speak up. "Excuse me." "HUH?" He yells. He then slides from under the car. I then realize it's the boy from the other day Skylar!
"Oh hey Austin!" He yells. "Hey Skylar! What are you doing here?" I ask. "Oh well this is my uncle's dealership, and I help work on his cars." Then Jerry followed by my family exit the building through the back door.
"Oh hey Austin, I see you met Skylar my nephew." "More like a very pleasant reunion." Skylar says as he stands up. He then winks at me. "Umm, I really like this car." I whisper, as I blush.
"Oh well this is a great car! It's a 2008 Volkswagen Beetle, I just finished changing the oil, and it has an aux cord input so you play music from your phone in your car! Also we put new tires on it, and it only has 70,000 miles on it!" Skylar pleads. "Thanks Skylar for that great description!" Jerry says mockingly.
