Chapter one: Secrets

NOTE: This chapter kind of tells the history of the town and what happened in it.

Keith is laying awake staring at his ceiling, school starts today. This is the year where he'll finally find out about what his brother did. Keith's dad promised he would tell him. Shiro got arrested when he was 18, Keith was ten at the time and only vaguely remembers his dad telling him that Shiro wont be coming home anytime soon, 7 years have passed and the only thing his dad had said about his brother since then was that once Keith would turn 18 he would know the truth. Keith will be turning 18 this fall and he has been waiting for this moment, he will finally know the truth about Shiro.

"Keith, you're gonna be late for school." Keith's dad yells from downstairs. Keith groans and gets up. He puts on his clothes and checks his phone for any messages, he isn't surprised that no one texted him. Keith isn't exactly the most liked guy at school, it has everything to do with Shiro. The whole town is wary around Keith, it's like they know he's going to slip up and end up like his brother. Even though no one but his family and the police know what Shiro did that got him in jail. Keith looks in his mirror and ruffles his hair. He really needs to get a haircut, his hair looks like a mullet. Keith walks downstairs and grabs his motorcycle keys, he nods at his dad who gives him a small smile and walks out the door. Keith and his dad don't get along that much, Keith's dad tries to bond with him, but Keith keeps his distance. He just feels like his dad keeps too much stuff from him, and feels like he doesn't really belong anywhere. But maybe this year stuff will be different, maybe he'll finally find out where he fits in this world.

Lance is sitting in class staring at Jenny Shaybon, he has had a crush on her since last year. But she doesn't seem that interested in him. From what Lance knows Jenny likes Keith, Lance doesn't get how anyone could have a crush on a guy with a mullet. That guy really needs to get a haircut. "Mr. Mcclain, eyes to the board please." Mr. Iverson says. Lance snaps out of his daydreaming and listens to whatever Iverson has to say.

"This town is so boring." Lance is sitting at a table in the cafeteria while playing with his food. "That's not true." Nyma says. "The elections for town mayor are coming up, I heard Allura will be running for mayor." Lance sighs and rolls his eyes, elections are not that interesting in this town. Nyma and Lance have been friends since freshman year, they even dated for a short time. "Who cares about stupid elections if we all know that Zarkon will get all the votes again."

Ever since Zarkon got elected 7 years ago this town is nothing but boredom. Before Alfor died this town held festivals for every season of the year. Lance remembers going there all the time with his family, he also remembers that one time he and Hunk went into the ferris wheel but got stuck at the top. Lance pretended to be brave but he was really scared. Lance swore of ferris wheels ever since.But Zarkon stopped all the fun activities because of "budget cuts" by that he probably meant expanding his house since he lives in a huge mansion with his son Lotor. Lotor is pretty popular at school, he and Lance don't really get along. They tend to keep out of each other's way. "

"We should do something." Nyma looks confused at Lance. "Like what?" she says "I don't know, something. This town could use some adventure." Lance says. Nyma rolls her eyes at Lance. "Lance, this isn't some sort of movie, nothing dramatic is going to happen here. I like how safe Altea is." "How can you call this town safe? Our own beloved mayor got murdered." Lance pauses and looks at the table where Keith sits. Lance leans in closer to Nyma. "And Keith's brother got arrested for some reason." Nyma looks over at Keith. "Keep your voice down." She says. "What?" Lance shrugs. "Everyone knows about Shiro, I wonder why he got arrested. He always looked so cool, I never saw him as the type to go to jail." The whole town has been secretive about Shiro, Lance once asked his mom what the big deal was but she said that that was something that she wasn't allowed to share. Lance's mom was his laywer, she's still friends with the Koganes. Lance once went trough Shiro's files on his moms computer but they were heavily encrypted. No one seems to really know what happened except the Koganes, (who he isn't going to ask) his mom, (who won't talk about it) and the cops. (who obviously won't talk about it) This town might be boring, but it's still full of secrets, and Lance is determined to find out about what happened to Shiro.
