Chapter Three

I watched Taylor record a few songs, entranced. It was absolutely amazing to watch Taylor do her thing. When she was done and set the guitar down and took off her headphones, exiting the room she was in.

"Loved it!" I exclaimed, grinning as she came to sit next to me.

She smiled, and played back what she had recorded. We sat in silence as her recorded voice filtered through the speakers-it was amazing.

"Taylor, I love it," I told her softly.

She grinned, "Thank you for saying that."

Soon we finished up at the studio and we went back outside to explore Nashville some more.

"Coffee?" Taylor asked when we approached a Starbucks.

"Tea," I replied-I preferred tea over coffee.

"Ah, yes, the weirdo who likes tea more than coffee," Taylor smirked, rolling her eyes at me.

"You drink tea too!" I exclaimed, walking into Starbucks after her.

We placed our order, hers being a skinny vanilla latte, mine being iced green tea. A few people asked for autographs and pictures while we were waiting for our drinks and Taylor happily obliged.

"You know, I've always wanted to tell people at Starbucks that my name is Taylor Swift... just to have it on the cup, you know?" I told Taylor once we had gotten our drinks and made our way to a table by the window.

She laughed, "I don't know, not really. I mean... my name is Taylor Swift so I always get it on the cup."

"Right," I mentally smacked myself for being so awkward, "Sometimes, I forget you are THE Taylor Swift... you seem so... normal."

She looked at me, her head tilted to the side, "Thanks?"

I smiled, "It's a compliment. It means you aren't stuck up like all the other celebrities seem to be."

She nodded, "Well, thank you. I try not to be stuck up."

We sat in silence for a few minutes, watching people pass by the windows. I pulled out my phone and checked Twitter and Instagram (Starbucks had free wi-fi, okay). I took a picture of our cups and posted it.

proudswift: At Starbucks with Tay... she's indulging on her white girl-ness and having a latte after recording at the studio (!!!!!)

I smiled and set my phone down, looking at Taylor. I still wasn't quite sure she was real.

"You know," I began, "Swifties are awfully curious about this fifth album thing you have going on."

Taylor smiled slyly, "I bet they are. Please don't tell them anything."

I sighed, "Can't I just give them a hint?!?!? They've been dying for information! There's such a lull in the fandom... can't we have something?"

Taylor shook her head, taking a sip of her latte, "Nope. You, er, they must wait until July when we announce the video chat."

I sighed, leaning back in my seat. A part of me loved keeping the Swiftie fandom waiting in suspense and seeing all the speculation but another part of me remembered what it was like to be in the fandom, so desperately wanting information. I pulled my hair into a ponytail... maybe I could give them a hint? But no, Taylor would kill me. And Taylor was my role model and friend. I should do as she asked.

"Oh, my, God, it's Taylor Swift!"

I turned around to see Austin standing in the doorway to Starbucks, shouting his usual greeting that he used when no one seemed to be paying attention to Taylor. Taylor turned and rolled her eyes as Austin made his way over to us.

"What are you doing here?" Taylor asked as he pulled up a chair.

"Well, hello to you too, my dear sister," Austin smirked.

"Hey, Austin," I said, smiling.

"Hey, Maia, how are you? Has Taylor been dragging you to boring places?" Austin asked and I laughed.

"No, we just walked around and went to the studio... she has some great stuff for the fifth album. I can't wait!" I told him.

He shook his head, "Always a Swiftie, you are."

I nodded, "Basically."

"Well, tell your Swiftie friends to stop constantly spamming me with weird questions about Taylor," he said.

"I can't control them. They're crazy."

"Oh, and you aren't?"

"I am but that's not the point."

Austin and I bantered back and forth. It was wonderful-sometimes I wished I had a brother like him. Taylor just sat and watched us go back and forth, laughing. Finally, Taylor and I finished our drinks and we got up to go.

"Taylor, can I talk to you for a quick sec?" Austin asked. "Alone?"

"Sure," Taylor said before turning to me. "Go in the bookstore across the street, I'll be there shortly."

I nodded and left Starbucks, briefly turning around to see Austin and Taylor in deep conversation, a worried look on Taylor's face.
