It was finally the day we were going to court. After a year of statements, therapy, tears, and pain, we were finally going to court. I couldn't wait to see him behind bars. I couldn't wait to see my father smile again. I couldn't wait to see my brother look at me as a normal kid, not someone who needs protecting. I adjusted the bright pink dress, a hand me down from Betty because we couldn't afford a dress after all the costs with the lawyers. I was eleven now. I celebrated my birthday a few weeks ago. I adjusted the bow in my hair, and walked out to see Jughead, Betty, and my dad.
"You guys ready to go?" My father asked, a dullness to his voice. We all piled in to Betty's moms car, and drove off to New York. The drive was long and boring. Eventually we finally pulled up to the court house, and an over whelming sense of fear came over me. I hadn't seen or even spoken to my mom or grandparents in a year. I held my dads hand tightly. When we walked in, I saw them sitting there. Watching me. I tried so hard to keep it inside. Without even knowing it, I started digging my finger nails into my palms.
"No Jellybean." Betty whispered. She took me off to the bathroom, and I saw what my palms looked like. Small crescent moon shapes in my palms. Betty gently washed my hands.
"Hey, I know this isn't easy, but please promise me you won't do this." She whispered. I nodded, and she pulled me in for a tight hug.
"We got you Jellybean." She whispered in my ear.
