Another Universe

Chapter 2: The CARS UNIVERSE?!

"Finn McMissile?!" Jenny blurted out.

"How... do you know my name?" Finn asked, his eyebrows going even higher. 

There must be a logical explanation for this, thought Jenny. Either I'm dreaming, or I'm dead, or I'm hallucinating, or all 3, or... I'm genuinely in the CARS UNIVERSE! Jenny then burst out laughing before fainting right there on the spot and losing consciousness again. 

"Hang on, Finn. I think she's coming round." A female voice was heard a few minutes later as Jenny began to slowly wake up. "But what species is she? And where did she come from?" 

"I honestly don't know. But she must've come a long way. Her mother and father must be worried about her." 

Then Jenny fully woke up, and realised that she was sitting in what looked like a hotel room, which Finn had obviously snuck her into. Outside the window, they had a clear view of Tokyo and its countless lights that illuminated the darkness. And in the company of Finn, Jenny also saw in front of her...

"Holley Shiftwell!" She exclaimed. She blushed upon glancing at Finn again, and she felt like her inner fangirl was going to suddenly burst out the back of her head. 

"You know Holley's name, as well?" Said Finn. "How?" 

"It's a long story..." She replied slightly awkwardly.

"Well, if you don't mind me asking, what's your name? And..." Finn began, but Jenny finished his sentence for him. 

"'What am I'?" 

"Yes. Sorry, it probably sounds like a rude question. If it is, I didn't mean to offend-" 

"No, Finn, it's okay!" Jenny smiled. "To answer your questions, my name's Jenny, and I'm a human. I got here from my own dimension somehow." 

"Can you remember how you got here?" Holley asked, 

"Yeah... I think so. The memory of it's kinda fuzzy, but I believe I found a weird silvery portal-thing in the woods near to where I live one afternoon, and I got pulled into it, and then I woke up in this dimension and Finn found me. Wait, hang on... what's the year, by the way?" 

"It's 2011." Replied Finn. "Why?" 

"I think... I think I also time travelled, because I'm from the year 2018." Jenny's eyes widened even upon realising this herself and she placed her hand onto the top of her head. 

"From... 7 years into the future?" Holley looked surprised as well. "That must be another effect of this portal you mentioned. But how do you know both our names?" 

"Well... basically..." Jenny blushed in slight embarrassment and awkwardness before clamping her hands together and finishing with, "Where I come from, you 2 are characters in a movie called Cars 2, about the camera you're investigating right now." 

"So you're saying Holley and I are film stars?" Finn enquired. 

"Yeah, that's basically the long and short of it. But, can I just say, this may sound a little weird, but... you're awesome! Both of you! The movie you're in is my favourite movie of all time, and I'm a huge fan! God, again, sorry, I sound like a gigantic nerd, I know..." 

The Faultless GT drove up next to the teenage girl in front of him and offered her a friendly smile as he told her,

"Jenny, don't worry about coming across like that. What matters is that from what I've seen of you so far, you seem like a nice person." 

Jenny wiped the lenses of her glasses on the bottom of her shirt and then placed them back on her face. "Thank you, Finn. Thank you both." 

"You're welcome." Holley wore the same smile as Finn, and after Finn turned to face her, he asked,

"So what do you recommend we do now, Miss Shiftwell?" 

"I think tomorrow, we should work out what to do with Jenny, and then see what we can do about retrieving the photo from the American age-" Holley suddenly stopped and then said with a chuckle as she looked at Jenny, "Looks like she's so tired she's fallen asleep already." Because she was, indeed, fast asleep, arms and legs spread out haphazardly. 

Finn almost laughed at the sight. Such an innocent girl, her parents were probably worried sick.

"Sounds like a fair enough plan to me." Finn acknowledged. "It's getting late, so goodnight, Holley. We'll put your plan into action first thing in the morning." 

"Okay." And so the purple Jaguar drove into her bed and pulled the covers over herself.

Finn took one more glance at the girl. "And goodnight Jenny." Then he proceeded to his own bed, and as he switched the light off and lay there, gazing out the window and into the night, he promised himself that, even though he'd only just met her, he'd protect Jenny no matter what.
