Zayne's POV:

'Damn it.' I thought. 'Probably not the wisest idea to try and piss off a Grimm.'

I was running through the woods on Patch trying to outrun a Beowolf. I just needed to find a good place to try and attack. Daggers in hand, I made a hard right and hid behind a tree waiting for the Beowolf to go that direction. Once it ran past me, I started running towards it and slashed it from behind. Once it turned to smoke, I let out a breath of relief.

Putting my daggers away, I started heading toward's Rose-Xiao Long residence. I didn't exactly live with them so to say, but I was pretty good friends with Ruby and Yang. Just last year they both went to Beacon in Vale. They insisted that I sign up and come with them, but I politely declined. I did tell them that I would visit them in Vale sometime whenever I could save up enough Lien.

I didn't exactly have a family to go back to either. I never knew them since they died from a Grimm attack. I basically have lived on my own all my life, fighting and trying to survive. I lived in the wilderness in Patch, but I lived a bit close to the Rose-Xiao Long residence. Ruby and Yang insisted that I could live with them, but trying to be as humble as I can, I told them that I could survive just fine. I didn't want to be a burden to them. But sometimes I would make my way over just to have a quick bite to eat if I was running out of food.

I opened the door to the house and let myself in. I saw Qrow on the couch, flask in hand. Taiyang was in the other room cooking up a light dinner.

"Hey Tai," I greeted. I took a seat on one of the stools and took out a water bottle.

"Nice to see you Zayne, how have you been?" Tai smiled.

"Alright I guess, went into town to get some things, ran into a Beowolf in the woods. Pretty much the usual." I shrugged. "How about you?"

"Well, the girls are coming home for the week. They finished their first term at Beacon, which is basically them finishing up their first year. They won't be here long though, turns out that classes start back up pretty early." Tai explained.

"That's great." I smiled. "It's nice to see them becoming Huntresses so fast. Feels like they've only been gone 2 months or so. Barely feels like a year." I chuckled.

"Time flies when your training to defend the world." Qrow said as he stepped into the kitchen.

"Yeah, speaking of which, I think I'm finally ready to attend Beacon. I gave it a lot of thought, and I think it's time." I said.

"That's great news Zayne!" Tai smiled. "I'm sure Ruby and Yang would love to see you join them!"

"Heh, I think so too. Sure, I'll have to go through the rigorous entrance exam, but I hope that I'll be able to prove myself."

"Kid, with your guts, you'll do great." Qrow said as he took a slug from his flask.

"Thanks Qrow. I guess in the meantime, is it alright if I stay with you guys until I go off to Beacon?" I asked Tai.

"You're always welcome here Zayne. Of course you can. You can use the guest bedroom." Tai said with a smile.

"Thank you. I think I'm gonna rest a bit if that's ok. I can't wait till Ruby and Yang get here!" I smiled as I made my way to the guest bedroom and plopped on the bed. I smiled to myself as I stared up at the ceiling.
