He had heard about them all of his life.
The Dragonkin, people who looked just like Nekojin, minus the ears and tail.
Until they turned into a dragon and killed everyone in sight.
He never knew he'd meet one.
Until he met her.
It was the first battle of the war he had been sent to. The first meeting of a Dragonkin. He wondered if they were as deadly as people said. "Hisoka Brenu! Mafa Nantaki!" The commander was calling names for the soldiers going to this battle. Normally they were just names, that fell flat, with almost no meaning. Until the commander yelled, "Kenji Mindoa!" That just happened to be his name. Kenji was astounded. My name? He thought. He quickly grabbed his spear and shield as he ran out onto the battlefield.
The so called "Dragonkin" had massive spears, so big they had to drag them, and armor that was way to big for them. Amateurs. He thought laughingly. Then they transformed. Their bodies changed from human to massive dragons, their armor fit on perfectly and they easily carried their spears. They were huge, and strikingly magnificent. They came in many different colors, but one stood out. A large, jade dragon, struggling with her spear. As an obvious first choice, he attempted to run and attack her with his claws, but she used her spear to block him. She easily pinned him down, but whispered, "I don't want to do this." To him. Her eyes glazed over with tears. "Then don't." Kenji responded. "I won't hurt you if you don't hurt me."
Her enormous talon slipped off of his small frame as her transformed back to human. "We'll make a deal. A truce between the two of us." She said. "I'm Hael, by the way." She stuck out her hand as if going to shake his. "Kenji." He reacted. He shook her hand. "And we have a deal."
