"Where are we going?" Kenji yelled over the rushing wind as Hael flew at max speed, which was quite fast for her maturity. "The backyard of Satan!" She joked. The two chuckled. They had been joking around and just chatting for the past hour. The raging battle was miles away, but they kept going. "Hael, what kind of dragon are you?" Kenji finally worked up the courage to ask. "Kimudu." "What?" "Fire-born. There are four types. Kimudu, Arade, Medam, and Wija." Kenji stared blankly at the back of her head. "Ugh, Fire-born, Wind-born, Ocean-born, and Earth-born. You really are a bekan tuku." The large jade dragon rolled her eyes. Is he really this stupid? She thought. "Well I'm not a dragon. I don't understand, so get over it." He snapped. "Jeez, take a joke." Hael retorted. If he'll speak to me that way, I'll show him who's boss here. The puny Nekojin, or the dangerous Dragonkin.
Soon enough, they got to a landing spot. Hael viciously shook off Kenji, and turned back to human. The boy flicked his over sized cat ear and angrily yelled, "What was that for?" at the semi-shapeshifter. "Your attitude. Don't forget that I could have killed you, but I didn't." Kenji glared angrily at her. He picked up a hefty branch, and shoved the sharp point (which was pretty sharp) in Hael's face. She stared at him and the branch in complete terror. "You wouldn't." She tried to sound strong, but her fear came off in layers, each one thicker than the last. Slowly tears started to fill her blue eyes and begun to pour down her face. Kenji quickly took notice, and he himself started to cry. "Y-You're right." He pointed the end of the stick down "I-I wouldn't." The two's eyes locked. Kenji's green eyes glinted with regret. "I'm so sorry." He mumbled in between sobs. He dropped the branch and ran to her with an apologetic hug. After a minute of hesitation, Hael hugged back. The two shared the moment in silence.
Until the flap of wings was heard.
Two large dragons, one grey and one diluted red, had flown in. They were both covered in scars, and the grey one looked at the scene that was happening below. "Hael?" He asked in a scratchy voice. Hael recognized the voice and her heart pounded. Now they'll find out. She thought with a forced smirk. Now you can stop wondering what they'll think, and you can know. "D-Dad? Oh, uh, yeah, it's uh..." She stuttered, the "tough girl" mask she put on with Kenji was fading away. "What is the meaning of this?" The grey one rasped, turning human. He was tall and his hair was blonde, like Hael. The red-ish one transformed too, and she was average size, with blonde hair like the rest. "Uh..." Hael could only stammer at the sight of her parents seeing her like this. "I was, uh, going to impale him with my spear!" She lied. Kenji realized what she was doing, and responded with, "What? All of you dragonkin are the same. I will kill you now!" He picked up his spear, and Hael picked up hers, altering her form to dragon. The two pretended to duel, even slightly harming each other in the process to give more authenticity. Everything was going according to plan, until Hael's parents tried to get involved. "Mom! Dad! I can kill him by myself, plus, it'll be a big moment for me. And... you might be needed at the main battle. You two are some of the strongest fighters." Kenji stood, overhearing the entire conversation. "I suppose you're right, but bring us his dead body when you're done so we can have it stuffed and hang it like a trophy!" Her mom allowed, finishing jubilantly. "Great idea honey!" Her dad agreed. "See you at the battle, sweety."
"Close call. Good persuasion." Was all Kenji could say. He was in a state of marvel after the whole thing happened. "Thanks. I learned from them." Hael acknowledged, not looking away from where her parents disappeared to. She jumped from the sky, morphing her shape to a more human. "That could have ended badly." "We've already established that." Hael stared at him blankly at him. "Yeah... but... that was amaz-" The tall figure cut him off. "Stop before you drive me crazy and I really do kill you." She joked. Kenji chuckled and yanked his head away from her finger.
Hael soon enough changed to her massive beast, and said simply, "We should keep going. If my parents tracked us here, other people can find us." "Alright." Kenji climbed onto her back, and the took off once more.
