Samara

Three days. I've been walking for three days, without the luxury of sleeping.

My feet drag on across the grass, just begging for release, yet I keep on moving, my mouth dry and my arms limp at my side. The only thing keeping me going The Mistress, who keeps on barking at me to walk.

My knee pops, and I fall to the ground, only to the forced to stand up by the Mistress. She was thoroughly annoyed at me.

"Get up. You're not a quitter. You are Kira." The Mistress said sharply.

These words give me some confidence, but only for a second. Continuing to walk, I stop suddenly at the smell something unfamiliar to me.

Honeysuckle wood.

Translation: nearby cottages.

*~*

The cottage wasn't too terribly far away from the Royal pack. It was old, and had a homey feel to it. I took cautious steps. When I reached the squat windows, I peered inside to see any signs of people. Nobody was home.

Before I even walked in, I felt as if I was being watched. I looked at the surrounding forest, staying still for a second. Nothing.

I pried the door open, and took purposeful strides into the squat fixture, letting my wolf, Kitana, take in the scene. There was a small kitchen: expensive hardwood floors expanded through the floor, while granite counter-tops gleamed under the recess lighting.

The idea of a homey cottage stirred something inside me- it intrigued my emotions that were now threatening to resurface. I gave in to my feelings and continued to explore the cottage.

Suddenly, I felt surrounded. In the darkened staircase, a shadow flitted. Then another. And another.

Before I knew it, I was surrounded by men and women, all of them made a tight circle around me. I turned up, looking for a weakness, but everyone was tightly woven as if they were one skin.

"Who are you, and why are you here?" Someone questioned in a gruff voice.

Deep down, fear settled at the bottom of my stomach. With my depleted energy from not eating a real meal, I didn't know how well I could fight.

Sensing my fear, the Mistress snaps at me, and forces me into a fighting position.

"Get ready to fight. I'll be here to aid you." The Mistress promises.

The circle around me tightens, as I get ready to pick them off one by one. Suddenly, they draw back, and kneel on one knee, their heads bowed.

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, but I realize there is a new presence in the room.

A girl, with shoulder-length brown hair and a slim, strong frame approaches me. Power rolls off her in waves, but like me, looks around seventeen years old.

My pursers mutter their words of respect as she passes by, and she stops in front of me. She has striking green eyes, the most vibrant shade of green, that searches my face.

Instinctively I don't trust her. My eyes dart wildly around the room, ready to make an escape if I had to. She stays silent for a long time, her face neutral.

I was going to dart to the door, but her set face suddenly smooths, and she's smiling.

"Kira."

I'm instantly confused- how does she know my name? If she knows who I am, I'm not safe here.

A string of questions bombard my head, and the Mistress has her own demanding questions. But I block that all out.

I know that voice.

Staring at the girl in front of me, I desperately search for an answer. And then it hits me.

It's Samara.

*~*

"I'm fine by myself. She is not a threat." Samara says, power lacing with every word.

The people nod, and leave. However, some still lingered at the door, as if I was going to attack her any moment.

Without any warning, Samara launches herself at me, and I gave a yelp of surprise, ready to push her back until I realized she was embracing me.

Her arms looped around my head, as she squeezes me even tighter.

"Oh Kira, how did you get away?" She murmured.

Tears were collecting in her eyes, as she started to sniffle. I'm not a big crier, but seeing her affection towards me made me tear up. The Mistress thought my tears were a sign of weakness, as she scolds me.

"Right after I left you and Caleb that night, I was walking home when the fire broke out. No one really got scared... not until the Royal Blood Pack shifted. I saw them kill my parents. Right in front of me. They murdered my parents in front of a seven-year old girl, not even caring, or knowing what would become of me." She says, grasping my hand.

My heart aches for her- I saw my parent's dead on the floor, but I didn't see them killed. I squeeze her hand, and she presses her lips, trying to suppress her tears.

"After that, I ran into the woods. I kept running and running and running, but I still heard people crying, and shouting..." Samara gasps, tears rapidly pouring down her cheeks.

"And then, I came here. Everyone accepted me. They didn't ask me where I came, or what I saw. They just accepted me. And crowned me as their Luna." Samara says in a thick voice, her pride unmistakable.

Everything is silent, except for Samara, who is now letting out loud sobs. Her frame shakes, as I reluctantly hug her, still not fully trusting her.

Once she calms down, she composes herself quickly, mopping her eyes.

"Samara... what is this place?" I ask her.

Her eyes once watery suddenly brightens, and she straightens up, a smile playing on her lips.

"Kira, welcome to the Rogue Pack."
