Prologue

10 YEARS AGO...

"And I'll huff, and I'll puff and I'll BLOW THIS HOUSE DOWN!" Yelled Caleb.

Samara pretends to scream, and falls over as Caleb blows down her imaginary house and eats her. He stalks to my straw house, and I crouch down.

"Little human little human let me come in!" He yells.

"Not over my dead body!" I scream.

I spring out of the house and tackle him. His blue eyes go big when he's on the floor and I'm on top of him, holding his arms down.

"Ha! You're not strong enough, you wolf." I say, giggling.

I get off of him, and Caleb frowns.

"You can't do that." Caleb said. "Only the boys are the fighters, Kira." 

Samara and I cross our arms and stare at him.

"Yeah she can! She's gonna be the best girl fighter!" Samara says.

"Yeah! I will, just like my mom!" I say hotly. 

Caleb shrugs.

"Well, we all can fight together." He says, putting his fist out.

"Together." Samara and I repeat, bumping his fist. 

And then we raced to the Field. All the gardeners were going home, so we crept to the corn field. The grass tickled our feet, and Sun shone on our faces. It got a little dark, and we noticed Helios, the Sun God leaving. We waived him bye, and welcomed the Moon Goddess. 

"We should go home you guys, our Mom's gonna kick our buns." Caleb says.

Samara and I giggle, and still run around in the silvery grass. When we were tired, we lied on the cool grass, and stared at the moon.

"I'm gonna go home guys. I don't want my Mama to kick my butt." Samara says.

"Bye Sammy." Caleb and I say.

I see Samara's brown hair jumping while she skipped towards the town square. Caleb comes to lie next to me. We're both on our backs, staring at the dark sky.

"Look, it's the Moon Goddess!" Caleb says.

I look up to see the constellation of the Moon Goddess. Her flowing, dark hair reaches her back, and her pretty face is smiling at me. I smile and wave.

"My mommy told me that whenever two people are underneath the moon goddess, they're gonna be mates and get married." Caleb says.

He turns to me.

"I'm gonna marry you one day, and then you'll be all mines!" He says .

I scooch away quickly.

"No! I don't want you to be my mate. Your teeth are stinky." I say, rolling away.

Caleb rolls closer to me and I roll away faster, laughing. 

"Come back let me maaarrryyy yoouuuuu." Caleb said singing rolling faster towards me.

We both laughed, rolling around. 

Suddenly, I smell something strange. 

"Do you smell that?" I ask, wrinkling my nose.

"Sorry, I can't control my farts."

"Ew, not that, it smells like... smoke?" I say.

I feel my heart beat, as I suddenly stand up.
