Lexi stared off into space as she waited to be interrogated. She flinched out of her thoughts as the detective walked in, shutting the door a little loudly. Lexi looked up at him, crocodile tears filling her eyes. She sat up straight, greeting him.

"Hi, detective," Lexi felt her voice shake, making her take a deep breath.

The man sat down and smiled, "How are you?"

"Okay," Lexi frowned, "I think."

"How did you meet Jerome and his mother?" He asked her as she crossed her legs.

"I wanted to run away from home," Lexi told him about the clear as day memory, "Join the circus. Like every little kid. Except I had reasons. Good reasons. Jerome talked me out of the circus life though..."

"What were your reasons?" The detective watched her slight smile turn to a frown.

"Abusive mom, absent dad," Lexi corrected herself, "No, he was there. He just... It's hard to explain that."

"Take your time," He nodded for her to continue.

"Mentally... Something was wrong," Lexi trailed off, "He was never there."

Questions on top of questions later, she was released. Almost. Jim Gordon, the man interrogating both of them, looked further into her case. Lexi was almost home free. Then, they were both called back into the precinct for more questions.

"Where's your mother now?" Gordon inquired as Lexi played with her sleeves under the table.

"I don't know," Lexi shrugged.

"I believe you do," He slid a picture forward that looked very familiar, "Does this ring a bell?"

"I don't understand what you're saying, sir," Lexi kept herself calm at first.

"That's your mother, isn't it?" Gordon lowered his voice slightly.

"It doesn't have a face," She raised her eyebrows. "I don't believe I can confirm anything."

Gordon stared at her for a moment.

"Where did you say your mother was?"

"I said I didn't know."

"How long has she been gone?"

"A while now... Maybe a week and some days?"

"This was reported ten days ago."

"You can't seriously think this is my mother, sir..."

"You never called in. Never reported her missing."

"I didn't think she was. I believed maybe she was staying with some friends. Or a lover. I'm sorry to say, but it wouldn't be the first. My mother... She was practically a free bang for any man in town after my father died."

"Because she killed him."

Lexi looked down. He knew a lot about her story then. Maybe I can guilt him into letting me go. Could I? He doesn't seem like an emotional type. God, I wish Jerome was here. He knows how to get out of this.

"I believe you killed your mother. And assisting with Lila Valeska's murder."

"Well, James," Lexi smiled up at him, "Are you saying two extremely abusive mothers didn't deserve it?"

"Are you saying you did it?" Gordon challenged.

"I am," Lexi giggled, "But it was self-defense. Guess that means nothing, huh?"

Lexi was sent to Arkham for the murder of her mother and helping Jerome kill his. It wasn't a long stay. Soon, they were popular on T.V. and newspapers. They were living like secret kings and queens together in Theo Galavan's apartment.

"Be careful out there tonight," Lexi murmured against his lips, "I wanna see you tonight."

"Don't worry about me," Jerome grinned, "Better be watching me tonight."

"Can't believe you're going to be a star," She smoothed back a piece of hair, "You're going to do amazing things."

"With you by my side, doll?" He cupped her hips, slowly moving his hands down.

"Of course," Lexi purred. "Kill anyone who gets in your way tonight, J."

Lexi had regretted not telling him she loved him that night of the gala. The way the blade plunged into his neck replayed over and over and over in her mind. She couldn't believe Theo would betray him like that. He promised her that Jerome would make it big.

"Jerome," Lexi whispered to herself, "I love you."
