Emerald talks forever. I could say a joke, and he would launch into a thirty minute conversation how his sisters and Olivia, his girlfriend, put candy in his hair while he was sleeping and put shaving cream all over the floor. It's an Emerald thing.
He does pass the time though. While he was talking, time seemed to move like microwaved butter sticks. He talked about how he got accepted into his dream college and how Olivia was going to Paris. Then he noticed my clothes.
"Whoa," he whistled, "I haven't see you dressed that way ever since-"
"I know," I murmured, knowing exactly who he was talking about. "I have a date tonight."
He stumbled back," Wait, what? With who? Is it a guy? Is he as dashing and charming as me?" Emerald can ask ten questions within a second for all those who need to know.
"Yes it's a guy, and my mom doesn't know yet, even about... him. And, he's definitely hotter than you. His name is Dylan." Just saying his name made me feel happy.
He looked at me with a look he hasn't given me ever since... Never mind. He gave an odd look that most likely meant he would be strangling me after the date. "Hotter than me? This boy must be something, probably even more of a charmer than Justin-" He stopped mid-sentence. I practically went cold and dead. Leave it to your best friend to ruin your best day.
Pain seemed to wash over me like a tsunami. I fell back onto my bed, Emerald rushes to my side, " Martin! Jeez, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to talk about it! I thought you were over it..." I could feel his hand in my back, I could see the concern on his face, but I felt as if I was watching this all from miles away. Everything sounded like listening to TV through a wall, all muffled and distorted.
All I could think of was the first date. Justin and I were sitting in his room, he offered me a soda, when I drank it, I got woozy. He slipped alcohol or something into my drink, he... He...
"Martin! Your boyfriend is here!" Emerald hissed. I snapped back into reality, looking out my window. Dylan's car was pulled up on the side of the street and Dylan himself was walking across the street. Each step he took was like thunder breaking the odd windy silence of a storm. I scrambled off of my bed, attempting to stand, but only managing to fall to the floor. Yeah, if I'm like this without alcohol, it's going to be a really bad time if I ever touch alcohol again...
Knock knock.
I rush to the door. My mom gives me a wide-eyed look, I dodge past her, I unlock the door, throwing it open to find Dylan in some very skinny skinny jeans and a black button-up shirt over a shirt saying: "Kiss me, I'm cute. (Also 'cause you're cute)."
"There is no way that shirt was owned by you before at least a month ago," I teased. He looked at me with a bit of confusion. "Yeah, I actually got this specifically for you,"he shrugged. He smiled and I felt as if I was staring at a crystal with a laser pointed at it. His teeth were flashing as bright as a welding torch (Which, if you don't know, can blind you). His hair was swept to the left, in a messy, but clean way. His eyes sparkled with hope and beauty, but quickly dimmed when he looked behind me. "Who's this?" He grumbled.
I turned around to see Emerald, cross armed, staring darkly at Dylan. "I really don't think he's cuter than me. Martin, you'd rather date him when you can be with me and have quickies everyday?" He sassed.
"Excuse me?!" Dylan exclaimed. He started to march to him and probably punch the ever-living shit out of him. Alas, I can't blame him.
God, he's amazing.
Oh, wait. I probably should be beating the shit out of Emerald.
Emerald is laughing so hard that he's on the floor. Normally, I don't attack my best friend in front of my date, but with Emerald, there is always an exception. I slug him square in the gut. Sometimes I feel like he's not really my friend, and more like my little shoulder Satan.
