Shayne walks through a street. There's small houses made from rotten wood on either side of him. The uneven stone ground is covered in green tares. The ominously looking houses are at their best in the soft orange morning light. They kind of look like the houses in his district. He looks at his leg. The knife is still there, but the pain has completely gone away. As he looks forward he can see a figure standing near the end of the street. He walks through the streets, closer to the figure. It's Courtney, her blond hair glowing in the sunlight as she stands with her back towards Shayne. Shayne tries to run towards her but finds himself not being able to move forward. His feet are moving but he's not gaining any distance. ''Courtney!'' he yells, but Courtney doesn't respond. Suddenly he can feel the ground starting to tremble. In the distance, beyond Courtney he can see the ground falling away. The wooden houses plummet down as a giant ravine starts to move closer. The rocks on the ground are starting to shudder. Soon the ravine nears Courtney. Shayne tries to run towards her but is not able to move his limbs. Courtney falls into the unforgiving ravine that's now hastily coming Shayne's way. He tries to close his eyes but it's like someone is holding them open. He can feel the ground underneath his feet collapse before he tumbles into the darkness.
Shayne jerks awake, his hands shaking and pulse elevated. He looks around, frightened. The bright sun is reflecting off the thick layer of snow on the ground. The walnut brown trees swaying in the cold wind. Shayne calms down as he realizes he's still in the arena. It was only a dream. He sits up straight against the tree and looks at his leg. He carefully touches the swollen skin around the knife. No blood. Looks like the knife hasn't cut anything bad yet. A jolt of pain shoots through his neck as he throws his head back. He can feel his entire body has become sore from exhaustion and the cold. It's like those days after he first went to the gym. Except this time he can feel it in his entire body. He sighs. Shayne notices his necklace hanging half out of his pocket. He grabs it and holds it in his hand. He thinks about Courtney. A little tear starts to form in his eye. She died to save me and here I am, still in the arena. Have I already won? No, then they would have made the announcement. And besides if I would have won they would have already send a hovercraft, right? Maybe Keith isn't dead yet, he thinks. Keith's cannon is the only one that I didn't hear. Maybe that's because he's still alive, Shayne thinks enthusiastically. His thoughts get interrupted by a sound that he knows all too well. Soft heavy padding along with sniffing and an occasional deep grunt make the adrenaline flow through his veins. It's coming from somewhere not far behind the tree he's sitting against. He remembers the sound from the time he went camping in Aspen. He sits completely still with his back against the tree, afraid to move a muscle. He carefully and slowly peeks around the tree, trying to get a glimpse. Chills run down his spine as he sees a bear wandering several yards away. It's broad head turns around, away from Shayne. The beast takes a few steps forward, crushing the snow with its powerful claws. Shayne can feel his heart beat in his throat. He silently crawls to his feet and puts his back against the tree. He can hear the bear walking away from him. I need to get out of here, he thinks. His right leg aches as he tries to put a little pressure on it. My leg is not going to enjoy walking, Shayne figures disappointed. He looks in front of him. There's a tree just a few yards in front of him. He hears a low growl from behind him as he takes the first step forward. The snow crunches as he steps on it. As he walks forward he makes sure the tree stands in between him and the bear for in case the bear turns around. As he nears the tree, he hears the heavy paws stomping on the ground. The knife hits a branch as Shayne leaps behind the tree. He quickly bites down on his sleeve, trying not to scream from the pain. Shayne carefully peeks around the left side of the tree, but immediately backs away when he sees the bear has completely turned around now. He quickly continues his journey, walking from tree to tree and using the same technique as before. He makes his way through the snowy forest, a small breeze in his face. His path slowly moves downhill as he takes his leave from the cliff. Dark-brown trees peek out of the thick blanket of white Shayne is walking on. there are several little paw prints marking the ground.Shayne peers in front of him as he's walking. He sees some kind of an open space in the woods. That must be where the cornucopia is, he thinks. As he tries to sternly move on he can feel his leg aching. He stops and leans against a tree. He looks at the open space in the distance. It's not that far. Through the sound of the wind he can hear a low growl coming from behind him. Shayne quickly moves behind the tree. He peers around the tree. The bear is standing about 20 yards away from, sniffing the ground. It's like he's following me. He looks at his leg. A drop of blood falls down and lands on the snow. He's smelling the blood, Shayne thinks shocked. He sees the bear slowly walking his way. Shayne starts to quickly walk towards the cornucopia, as fast as he possibly can. He keeps looking backwards, making sure the bear hasn't seen him. He gets to the treeline. As he steps into the open field it feels like he enters another world. The trees block off the sound of the wind and the snow looks like an unfinished painting. The perfect white blanket looks like it's waiting for its artists hand to return. Shayne looks at the shining metal cornucopia as he walks through the field. He starts to feel paranoid. He keeps looking left and right to make sure no one can surprise him. Suddenly a loud penetrating growl penetrates through the woods behind him. Shayne turns around as the bear aggressively charges through the treeline, breaking branches and sending them through the sky. Shayne feels his muscles contract for a second at the sight of this immense beast breaking into the open field. The bear looks at him and immediately starts sprinting in his direction. He feels the adrenaline rush through his body as he turns around and bolts towards the cornucopia. The heavy pounding of the chasing bear cause him to ignore the pain in his leg. He's running as hard as he can. Just a few more yards. The heavy breathing behind him starts to get louder. Without slowing down Shayne jumps onto the side of the cornucopia, his chest slamming against the metal. He tries to grab onto something but his hands immediately slip away. He falls down and lands back on his feet. He takes a quick glance behind him. His eyes widen as he sees how close the bear already is. This has to be it. He takes a big jump and with one hand is able to grab the metal fin on top of the cornucopia. He tries to pull himself up, his one hand on the fin, the other flat on the top and his feet dangling of the side. With all the strength he still has left in his arms he pulls himself up until his chest is on the flat metal top. Just as he pulls his legs up, the bear clashes against the side of the cornucopia, it's claws scratching the metal as it slides down. Shayne backs away from the side, frightened. The bear let's out a big roar before standing on his back feet and slamming his front paws against the metal. Shayne can feel the entire cornucopia tremble. It sends shivers down his spine. The bear gets down on all fours and starts to aggressively growl at him. From the corner of his eye Shayne can see a figure walking. He looks over, still continuously keeping track of the bears movements.
