Jay's left hand traced a line over her spine then his right hand brought the zipper down over the curve of her bottom.

Karen bit her lip.

"So," he began, "you're not really Cheryl's girlfriend... in that way?"

"No," she managed, at the same time holding her breath.

The zipper completely undone, his hand lingered a moment before his lips touched the back of her neck lightly.

"I told you... one day you may regret tempting me this way," he murmured against her skin. "But not tonight. Good night, Karen."

He stepped away from her and she sighed. "Good night, Lord Ravenscar."

She heard him chuckle before he let himself out.

Karen let the dress fall to the floor, then she pulled back the covers on Jay's bed and crawled in.

He took it rather mildly, she thought. Very British-like, Karen supposed. Not that she'd been expecting an exclamation of joy... the kiss had been sexy.

Promising.

She couldn't sleep before she admitted to herself that Jay had always intrigued her. She wasn't sure, however, when he had started attracting her, but she kept allowing him to kiss her so she must like him a fair deal. It was something she considered until she fell asleep.

When she woke up, he was collecting clothes to wear. Uffizi was on the bed. Prado was wagging his tail, playing sentinel at the dressing room door.

"Disloyal dog," she muttered, before telling Uffizi to get off the bed. She hurried into the bathroom to fill the tub with water.

When she got out, her dogs were gone and there was no sign of Jay Madison.

The strong fresh scent of his cologne filled her nostrils as she went about getting dressed. Today she opted for tank top and skirt.

Going down the service stairs, she caught Mrs Brown singing.

"Mrs B, you have a great voice!"

The older woman turned with a smile. "Thank you, child."

"Good morning. Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, I did." Pause. "Did you?"

"Eventually," came the reply.

"Go have a bite then. It'll wake you up."

Mrs Brown looked at the younger woman and came to the conclusion that she looked alright.

Jay was already reading the newspaper.

"Good morning," she said, sitting down.

The paper lowered and he smiled. "Good morning. Coffee?"

"Yes, please."

Breakfast went on normally and then Jay went to his study to work.

The doorbell rang just as Mrs Brown picked up the breakfast tray.

"I'll get it," Karen offered.

It was the electricians who were going to check the floor heating system.

They, too, seemed to resist the urge to bow down to the petite beauty.

After enquiring as to their business, Karen let them in and went to get Jay to lead them upstairs.
