Austra Pokedex

New Types

The Austra region is home to Pokemon that have several types that are only rarely found elsewhere. In fact, they are so rare in other regions, that many Pokemon with these types were mistyped by officials. Thankfully, those mistypings have been corrected by the professors of Austra.

Sound-type

This type belongs to Pokemon that have a strong relationship with sound. A special property of this type is that these Pokemon will get a STAB boost from any sound based move rather than just moves that have the Sound-type. This can sometimes lead to there being rare occurrences of double STAB boosts, which may happen with the moves Disarming Voice, Bug Buzz, Snarl, Chatter, Clanging Scales and Sparkling Aria.

Light-type

This type belongs to Pokemon that have a strong relationship with light or can create light with their bodies. They tend to be strong Pokemon, and the type is often seen paired up with the Electric, Fire and Cosmic-types. A few Light-types were previously mistyped as Electric-types. Light-types are supereffective against Dark, Ghost, Grass and Poison-types, while Psychic, Fairy, Normal and Light resist it.

Arcane-type

This type belongs to Pokemon who are connected to the mystical arts and use one or multiple forms of magic. There are a few Arcane-type Pokemon that have been previously mistyped as Psychic, Ghost or even Fairy-types due to their mystical and unexplainable abilities.

Pokemon: Mismagius (Ghost/Arcane), Delphox (Fire/Arcane), Hoopa (Arcane/Ghost), Hoopa Unbound (Arcane/Dark)

Virtual-type

The Virtual-type is the world's first fully artificial Pokemon type. While other types may have developed in conjunction with humans, such as types from the nearby Kelnier region, this is the only one to have been made through entirely artificial means and as such only belongs to Pokemon that have been created by humans. The most interesting thing about the Virtual-type is that all of its weaknesses and resistances are completely randomized before every battle, providing a new and exciting battle with every new challenge. It will always have 4 weaknesses, 4 resistances and 1 immunity that are entirely random.

Cosmic-type

The Cosmic-type belongs to Pokemon that have a strong connection with space and has so far only been seen in extraterrestrial Pokemon. It has, in fact, been the main factor in confirming many theories that Pokemon such as Clefairy originate in space rather than on our planet. This type has a few characteristics that make it different from types that originate on our planet. The first is that it has no known weaknesses or resistances. Not even the Virtual-type has been able to hit super-effectively. Second, it has been noted that all STAB moves used by Cosmic-type Pokemon hit for 2x damage rather than 1.5x damage, so it seems to be an auxiliary sort of boost type if anything. Interestingly, some terrestrial Pokemon have been discovered to mega evolve into the Cosmic-type, suggesting a previously unknown connection to the cosmos. It's noticeable that several Cosmic-type Pokemon are either part Psychic-type or have strange abilities that currently have little explanation.
