Rory's POV:
WAKE UP!
No, stay asleep, we finally get to rest.
WAKE UP! THINK ABOUT LITTLE JASPER AND VIOLET! THINK ABOUT CHRIS!
Or stay asleep and just think about Austin. His gorgeous light brown eyes, his freckles on his forehead that trail down his nose. The way his beard starts just after a few days. The way he lies in bed in the morning and gives that small little smile when we wake up.
YOU'RE ENGAGED, YOU FOOL! AND YOU ARE NOT ENGAGED TO AUSTIN, IN CASE YOU'RE FORGETTING!
These voices have been going on for what I think are weeks. I don't know where I am and I don't know what the voices are. But the voices are constantly fighting. The firm one tries to wake me up, tries to get me to go back to my kids but the other just wants to stay asleep and dream about Austin.
"Please wake up," a quiet voice whispers in my ear, a voice that does not belong to Chris. "Please Rory, I am begging you. Please wake up."
I'm trying, Austin. I promise, I'm trying.
Maybe we don't need to stay asleep to think about Austin. Maybe we can wake up and actually feel him. Feel his touch, his soft lips that always linger.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
"What are you doing," another voice demands.
"The doctors say she can hear us. If she can hear us, I'm going to keep asking her to wake up."
"Stay away from her," the other voice spits. "She's mine."
I hear his musical laughter, even if it is sarcastic, it still makes my heart flutter. "Look Chris, clearly you don't know Rory very well. She's not a possession."
"Austin, I want you to stay away from Rory," Chris snaps back. "You're not good for her."
"And you are?"
"Actually-"
I decide that I can't take it anymore and give myself one last push to get out of the depths of my mind. I felt my eyes start to open slowly but I quickly shut them again because of the harsh lights. I let out a groan so that they know I'm awake.
"Rory?"
I groan again and feel someone holding my hand tightly. "Where am I," I choke out.
"You're in the hospital," Austin croaked. "You were in a car accident, baby."
My eyes open wide and I start to look around. "Wh-where are Violet and Jasper?"
"Violet and Jasper," Chris asks, a look of confusion settles on his face.
I nod. "Our kids. I had twins. Austin and I got into a fight because of it and I came to visit you. And we were engaged."
"Rory, you were never pregnant. I think I would have known about it," Austin sighs. "We're getting ready to go on tour with Motionless."
I shake my head. "I've already been on that tour."
"No baby, you haven't. You were on your way home from dropping Katie at the airport so she could go back to New York. Ryan and Caroline worked things out," Austin tells me quietly. "There was nothing you could do. The driver was drunk and ran a red light, he smashed into you so hard. They didn't know you were going to wake up."
"I'll get a doctor."
I watch Austin nod to Chris and I can't help but feel sick to my stomach. "I'm so confused," I start to sob. "I thought I had kids with you, I thought everything was finally working out."
