My lungs burned as I tried to get up. The oxygen tube was laying on the floor, just out of my reach. The door swung open, revealing John in his police uniform with his gun unholestered. Happiness swelled in my chest but unconsciousness was mocking me. "Gina! Are you alright?" Trying to breathe deeply, I let a smile cross my face. His eyebrows furrowed seeing me in my state and then he saw my stretched fingers to the oxygen tube. His face fell as he realized I was injured that badly. Quickly grabbing it and wiping the nubs with his shirt, he tucked it behind my ears. Hungrily, I breathed in, my weariness slowly fading. "Did anyone come in? Who did this?" Sucking in a couple more breaths of air, I spoke. "Bane. He was here just before you came in." Looking to him, I saw how tired he was. "He made a threat on your life." Heavy footsteps echoed from down the hall accompanied by trained light feet. "Other than taking my oxygen away, he didn't harm me John. Bane was-" My words were cut off when my eyes met Bruce's.

"My love." Reaching me in a couple of strides, he engulfed me in strong arms. My body throbbed, but tears poured down my face for a different reason. "Bruce." My voice cracked and I felt him sigh. I heard Jim hurry in, his breaths rigid. "Bruce." I whispered again, emotion thick in my voice. "You're okay. I love you." Pulling away, his eyes were glassy and full of love. Holding my face in his hands, he studied me. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Shaking my head no, I saw his expression sadden when he ran his fingers over the oxygen. "I'm okay now." His lips tugged but didn't fully smile. Turning away, he sat down next to me, picking me up gently. I hissed at the pain from the movement. Bruce held me close, but I was fragile and I cried out. "Sweetheart." Tears spilled over as I grit my teeth. He stopped moving and I relaxed, letting a breath puff out of my mouth. "Better?" Humming in response, I let my eyes slip closed. "Bane escaped before we could track him," I heard the Commissioner speak for the first time, "His men were everywhere. By the time we took them down, he had already escaped." I let the warmth of Bruce take away my worries. "He didn't hurt me Jim." My voice was barely audible, my throat still partially closed. Peering from under my eyelashes, I saw his confused expression. Laying my head on Bruce's chest, I adjusted the nubs. "He came in and helped me sit up and then showed me wasn't meaning any harm. I asked why he had come. He told me that the Joker was going to pay for injuring me to this extent. He said he was sorry before removing my oxygen tube." I felt Bruce's fingertips trace over the horror Harley Quinn left on my arm. He gently placed his lips there, sadness radiating from him. I snuggled into him, overjoyed that he was there with me again. My eyes heavy, I looked up at Bruce, Jim and John's voices droning out. "Hello there beautiful." Despite my state, I blushed madly. His smirk crossed his lips as he put them to mine.

The Commissioner and John had left to the GCPD, allowing me and Bruce some time alone. A nurse had come in to check my IV and give me pain medicine. She had protested the man in my bed, but then saw who it was. Bruce sent a dazzling smile her way while pulling me closer to him. I had fallen asleep, being able to sleep safely for the first time while being in the hospital. I woke to the sun peering threw the clouds, casting a glow in my room. Bruce was gone and I frowned, already growing cold. I reached to the bed side and pulled myself up, groaning. Swinging my feet over, I felt my bare feet touch the cool floor. Breathing deeply, thankful for the oxygen, I put a hand on the handle of the machine. Standing, my legs were not welcoming my weight yet. Determined, I took a step, clutching the oxygen tank. The door swung open, revealing Bruce in clean clothes and freshly showered. His eyes swept over me. "Gina." He came to my aid, but I help up a hand. "Don't. I'm fine." My voice was just slightly rough now and a smile formed on his face. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Slowly walking to the glass wall, he patiently stayed by my side. "You're so strong." A blush heat up my cheeks as he kissed my head. A comfortable silence filled the room as I shuffled to the glass wall. The sun shined threw the window, strobes of light striped along my skin. Letting out a deep sigh, I pressed my forehead against it. Bruce gently draped an arm around my waist and pulled me to him. Leaning heavily against him, I sighed happily. I was going to be okay as long as I was with him.

Bruce had stayed with me the whole day and Alfred had brought brand new clothing to me. The British man had stayed with us for awhile, catching me up on everything I had missed in the world, keeping me occupied while Bruce tried to get me home sooner than later. Telling me stories of when Bruce was young, I found myself fall in love with Alfred's caring personality. Bruce reappeared from the door, beaming. "You can go home tomorrow my love." His hair was slightly ruffled and his smile took over him. "I'm going to get my girl back Alfred!" He had a spring in his step which made me giggle. "A doctor came in behind him, startling him. "Miss Smith, there will be a nurse coming in a few minutes to help you shower and dress." Bruce's face changed quickly and I grew nervous. "Excuse me sir, there will be no need for a nurse. I can help her." The thought of Bruce Wayne seeing me completely exposed scared me to the bone. My hands started to tremble as the doctor nodded hesitantly. "I'll leave you to it then. I will see you soon Miss Smith, Master Wayne." Nodding, Alfred left, leaving me and Bruce.
