A/N AT BOTTOM

EMILY'S POV

THE WAITER hands us tall, thick menus. He hurries away, off to serve someone else while we look through the menu.

"Anything that you'd like Emily." Jackson says from behind his menu. "No matter how expensive."

I glance over him from behind my menu and watch as he scans it, like he's been here a million times.

I flip my menu around and point out the steak and the price.

"That's fine Emily. Like I said, price doesn't matter. Whatever you want to eat."

"Alright, don't go whining when you get the bill." I lean back into my seat, practically drooling at the smell of food.

Jackson got us a private, reserved room on the restaurant. He said he wanted our little date to be more private.

I'm not sure if he doesn't care about the price because he's just that rich or because this dinner is damage control.

This is his way of making up for the fact he dragged me out of a party and made me 'cry'.

Little does he know I'm just really good at pretend crying.

"Are you going to order for me since you're such a gentleman." I tease.

"Only if you want me to." He smiles, placing his hand over mine on the table.

He runs his fingers over my knuckles, giving me chills.

"Em, can I ask a question?" He looks up, his eyes meeting mine.

I hate admitting that he's attractive. His dark brown hair is tied up in a knot as usual, with a few stray hairs dangling in his face.

"Yeah, sure."

"When's the earliest you think you'll be ready to get married? Or to at least get engaged?"

"Why do you ask?" I glance around the room. It's dim in here, with a few candles at the table.

He shrugs. "Everyone keeps telling me I should propose but I want to do it when you're comfortable."

"Probably when I move to Giana."

"When will that be?"

"Next summer. Maybe over spring break."

He sighs, knowing how far away that is. After all, December is in a few days.

"So why's it snowing so early?" I look out the window. I hadn't even thought of it before. I mean yeah, Canada gets snow in late November, but this isn't Canada."

"Winter is always early here. Unfortunately."

"Not a snow fan I see." I smile, looking for a nice drink.

"Can't stand the stuff. Maybe if it didn't stick around so long." He keeps his hand over mine as he stares at the menu.

"So is there always a lot of thick, fresh snow?" I find a nice cocktail.

"All winter long."

"We should make maple taffy."

"What in the hell is that?" He chuckles, sounding genuinely curious.

"So you pour pure maple syrup on top of fresh snow and then you roll it up onto a stick."

"Why?"

"Because it's fucking delicious."

The waiter comes back and Jackson orders for us both. All my looking for a good drink is for naught because Jackson just orders a large bottle of champagne.

The waiter pours us some glasses and leaves.

(CONT. IN CHAPTER I OF RUBY)
                            __________

OH MY GOD THIS TOOK SO LONG TO FINISH I THINK I DIED A LITTLE INSIDE.

Ruby, if not already published by the time you're reading this, will probably be published in the next few months. I don't like putting update out for a story until it's finished just in case I change something, but I might not do that with Ruby.

Some things to look forward to in Ruby in case the sneak peek doesn't have you sold:

•More characters from the royal family.

•More of Vincent's past.

•Alice, Lucifer and Emily forming a bond.

•As expected, a side story for each couple.

•Christos and Adalia at each other's throats for the crown.

•Doggos.

•More about the Reed family and their character.

I hope you decide to check it out! I also plan on releasing a side story for Vincent. Depending on when you're reading this, it might already be out! However, if it isn't, I plan on publishing it in between publication of Ruby and Scarlet.

I would release it now, but it contains some plot points that are talked about in Ruby.

With that said, Thank you so much for reading!
