Alyssa's
Dennise looks at me with eyes that give me hope, that make me want to believe.
"Hello, stupid." She greets me with a warm smile, hugs me tighter, and presses her face against the crook of my neck. "Let's stay like this for a little while longer, Ly."
Tell me, how can I say no? This is Dennise, my young love. My greatest love. So I close my eyes and kiss her on her forehead. Of course I'd want to stay with you here, Den.
Dennise and I share a moment of silence, not the eerie kind but one that is comforting and safe. I feel Dennise's breathing get heavy again. Always the sleepyhead, this girl.
I get up and put on my clothes. A shirt and my underwear, at least. I go out and look for something to eat only to be startled by a figure of a woman from Den's living room staring right at me.
"Hello, Ly. Don't worry, I already saw you inside when I went to check on her because she was pretty drunk last night. I didn't think you'd be here."
"I'm sorry Ells I noticed she was drunk so I offered to accompany her home and she asked me to stay the night I didn't want to but she"
"Hey, hey. Slow down. I'm not in a rush for an explanation. Why don't you eat first? I made lunch. I'm sure you haven't eaten anything yet. Or have you?" Ella smirks at me and I pretend to deny whatever she's implying.
"Elllllllllllllllllllllls." I put on a frown but I know she knows better.
"C'mon, Ly. Before you even try to deny it, why don't you put on something else other than your underwear? And for fucks sake that is what she was wearing last night."
She points at the shirt I was wearing and I then notice that it wasn't my shirt that I picked up. I sigh in defeat and walk to the kitchen.
Ella watched me finish my meal in silence. Perhaps she was letting me process things and think of the right words to say. This is Ella. There is nothing about me that she doesn't understand. Or at least she always tries to.
"Ells?" She looks up at me and nods a little, signaling that she is listening to me. "I'm sorry. I was drunk too and I really wanted to be with her so stayed."
"And I know you have assumptions of what happened last night. It was just a spur of the moment thing and we were overcome by the longing and intoxication."
"You don't have to explain that part, Ly. I know you and Den well enough that no matter where you are or how long it's been you cannot say no once you get your hands on each other or you're going to burst." Ella is right.
"What I want you to tell me is what do you plan to do now? Den isn't just one of those girls you fuck and then leave. You can't disappear all of a sudden. You know she's very fragile despite of the strong facade she lets on. She at the very least deserves an explanation."
"I know, Ells. Remember that conversation we had about her? I'm not running away this time. I'm going to tell her."
"It's not that it matters but I think that's the right thing to do. Because if you don't it will look like you took her vulnerability for granted."
"Thank you, Ells. I promise I'll tell her when she wakes up."
