The sound of glass shattering caused Jack to bolt upright in his bed, his eyes frantically searching the darkness for any sign of movement. His muscles tensed in anticipation, Jack slowly got out of his bed, making sure he was as quiet as possible. His lips were pressed in a firm line as he continued to search for movement, and without taking his eyes off of his closed door, Jack opened his end table drawer and pulled out a small pistol from it. The cold metal in his hands gave him a sense of safety as he clutched to it, and having been trained in using a gun, he knew exactly what to do.

With a deep, shuddering breath, Jack tried to control his heartbeat as he began to approach his bedroom door before suddenly freezing. Chills ran down his spine as he heard heavy, panting breaths and Jack paled and began to shake. He knew exactly what that sound was, because he had heard it before. It was the panting of a canine and that made everything a thousand times worse, especially if the beast had a dark coat color. If it really was a dog, then that meant that there was a high possibility that Jack wouldn't be able to shoot the animal before it bit him. The thought of a dog sinking its teeth into Jack's fleshed caused him to tremble in fear.

As tempted as he was to go back to bed and pray that the intruders would leave, Jack knew he had to face them, so without any hesitation, he yanked open his door, the cool air of his house hitting him in the face, bringing with it the scent of wet dog.

Frowning, Jack slowly walked into hallway, wincing as he cursed at his creaking hardwood floors. He had to stop moving or else it would compromise his location, but he also couldn't afford to stand still, since that would him an easier target. After some thought, Jack stayed still, deciding he was going to go back to just listening, since he wanted to figure out just how close his intruders were to him.

A loud, excited yip broke the silence, and Jack panicked, freezing as he realized he had just been spotted. Shaking himself back to reality, Jack held the gun in front of him and blindly shot until he heard squeal that died out into a whimper, and Jack let out a sigh of relief, believing that he had eliminated the danger.

"That fucker has a gun, are you okay Meredith." The sound of the male voice caused Jack to freeze, his breath hitching as he raised his gun again, not sure if he had it in him to kill a human being.

"He's going to pay or this. Don't think I don't know where you are Jack, and you're going to pay for hurting Meredith," the man shouted, his voice being followed by loud cracking and popping, which made Jack stumble backwards in shock, since the noise was coming from right in front of him. What in the world was making that noise? Whatever it was, it sounded really painful, Jack thought as he tried to pinpoint that man's location.

"What the hell," Jack shouted in alarm as he began to shoot frantically, the gunshots almost drowning out the sounds of growling that was coming from right in front of him. A scream escaped from Jack's throat as he felt something collide with his torso, which caused him to topple onto his back, the weight on his chest staying there as Jack realized that he could feel paws on his chest and thighs. This thing was massive, Jack thought as he placed his hands on the beast's chest, trying to push it off of him.

Jack continued to struggle, trying to knock the dog off of him, but to no avail. It seemed that no matter how hard he tried, the canine on top of him wasn't going to budge and it made no sense to Jack. How could he not push this animal off of his chest? Jack wasn't a small guy, granted he wasn't huge, but he had a considerable amount of muscle on him, so removing the dog from his chest should have been an easy task.

A scream of pain escaped Jack's mouth as he felt teeth sink into the muscles on his right shoulder, pain spreading through his chest like wildfire. A random thought wiggled into Jack's mind as he tried to desperately tear the animal's jaws out of his flesh, which was how this bite felt nothing like anything he had ever felt before. Jack used to be a soldier in the army, so he's dealt with his fair share of painful wounds, but this bite felt like something was infecting him, like a disease traveling through his bloodstream.

Suddenly, the dog let go of his shoulder and leaped off of Jack, leaving him squirming in pain as the fire continued to spread through his veins, eventually the pain reaching his entire body. Amidst his pants of pain, he heard the sound of bones cracking and breaking once more, which caused him to let out a frightened scream of pain.

"I know this hurts, but you deserve it after hurting Meredith. Oh, by the way, welcome to the pack jackass," the man's voice spoke as Jack let out another scream, feeling his own bones start to crack and break, moving around inside his body. Scream after scream escaped Jack's mouth, each one getting louder by the second. His vision was starting to go black, panic engulfing Jack as he tried to move, but his movement always brought him more pain.

"Welcome to the pack, mate," a woman's voice was heard. Jack, through narrowed eyes, looked up at the woman who had crawled on top of him, her eyes glowing a soft amber color. Those amber eyes were the last thing Jack saw before his vision went black, his body still breaking and cracking as the shift began to take it's hold on him.
