Seven+

The feeling of being watched followed me for the rest of the week after the nightmare. My shoulder had healed as though it hadn’t even happened and Orin hadn’t shared anything else about his past. He had stayed in my room every other night though so we could both feed though I did understand it was more for me than him. I could always tell when he had fed recently and since he was an older vampire this meant he needed to feed more often to keep up the strength awarded to those who had stuck around as long vamps tended to.

Now I was absently putting away recently returned books in the library with only Ms. Tweed, the librarian, in the whole place. Still I couldn’t shake the feeling that eyes were on me at all times. The large windows facing over the nearby river still showed the sunlight wasn’t disappearing anytime soon making me sigh wistfully. I actually enjoyed the night because that meant Orin would visit me.

I was in deep with the damn leech.

Abandoning the book cart I slumped into one of the reading chairs facing the windows, closing my eyes and giving in to the warmth of the sun. I begin humming a made up tune folding my arms across my belly as I relax more into the chair.

God, I need to release some tension.

Maybe I can go to the factory after this, I think.

“Are you always so beautiful in the sun?” A deep voice whispers in my ear.

My eyes shoot open and I scramble out the chair to see a smirking Orin looking extremely amused by me. Wide-eyed I glance over towards the window, yeah, it’s still daytime so how…? He seems to see the question on my face because he sighs and walks towards me to take me in his arms. His lips make the skin of my ear burn in excitement as his lips brush the shell of it.

“You’ve seen my tattoos, yeah?”

I nod, still a bit speechless.

“Well they aren’t just pretty art. When I was still a young vampire a witch rewarded me with the gift of day walking.”

I give him a curious look, “Why?”

“I rather fancy the sun.” he shrugs.

“No. I mean why were you rewarded?”

His jaw tenses a bit, “I got rid of an unwanted suitor.”

Not wanting to push him I drop it but this is mostly because I’m distracted by the feel of his hands skimming the skin under the back of my black t-shirt. As his hand skims farther up I feel my back twitching as well as my foot long bound wings flutter in excitement. As his hand reaches my bindings it stills and I peek up at him to see his eyes are carefully blank. Then his fingers worm themselves under the elastic wrapping before skimming their tips on one of my feathers.

“Don’t.” I whisper.

He looks down at me with heated eyes, “Why?”

“They…they’re sensitive.”

“How so?”

I sigh unsteady as his fingers continue to skim the feather, “They react to my emotions. If I’m too…stimulated they tend to want to be free.”

He quirks an eyebrow as a sinful smirk plays on his lips, “Stimulated you say?”

“O-Orin.” I stutter weakly, “Don’t.”

“When do you finish?” He asks without stopping.

“In an hour.”

He nods with a small frown, “Then I’ll wait.”
