Spencer Hastings looked into her hands, there was one unmistakable pill. Not only had she been staring at this pill for half an hour, she's just had an argument with her ex. Toby Cavanaugh. He was engaged, to a really annoying girl called Yvonne Phillips. Back in high school her and Toby had been almost inseparable. A few weeks ago her and Toby got really drunk when catching up, one thing led to another and now Spencer was in trouble. Changing dirty diapers trouble.
Her mother would be disappointed in her and her father would turn her away. She was only twenty-four she had ages to think about kids. Scrunching up her fists she let a single tear fall from her puffy red eyes. Toby had been angry, more at himself then Spencer.
"Toby I'm so sorry." He turned away from her and banged his fists on his desk in his new police office. Spencer jumped scared of what would happen next. She couldn't hold the tears back anymore.
"my life is just as messed up as yours with all this baby mess."
"Spencer I'm engaged, Yvonne is the one I' m supposed to be making future plans with." Rage built up inside her.
"yeah well at least you have someone, I'm the one who's body is going to change and I' m the one who's going to have a baby pushed out her-" Spencer stopped herself.
"I'm just saying that I don't know what to do anymore. I'm a Hastings, my parents have always wanted me to be married and in my mid thirties before I give them a grandchild."
Toby turned back to her, his eyes watery.
"We'll talk about this later, I've got to meet the wedding planner."
How could he do that? Just pretend that she wasn't important anymore. After that Spencer sat in her car crying with her head against the steering wheel. She didn't know what to do with herself, she'd spent her entire life trying to be the perfect daughter for her parents. The only person she had ever fallen head over heels in love with was going to marry someone else. At least she had the moments they had in high school.
Not knowing where she was driving after talking Toby, she just started the car. That's when she had arrived at the hospital, she'd walked into the maternity unit and picked up something that would get rid of this problem once and for all. A pill to abort her baby.
"Are you sure you want to do this Miss Hastings?" the nurse looked at Spencer with concern while she fiddled with her hands.
Spencer looked around the room, focusing on the posters. One had a rainbow background with cat hanging onto a bar. 'hang in there' it read. Another one was of the stages of pregnancy and how the baby developed in the womb. Something she had the choice to experience.
"Miss Hastings?"
"yeah, I'm sure. It's just not the right time at the moment."
"okay." the nurse got out of her seat, unlocked a cabinet and handed her the box.
"take it when you're ready, it should do it's job just within twelve hours and remember once you've taken it there's no going back." she handed it over and Spencer grabbed it left the room after thanking the nurse for her help.
Spencer stood up, walked into her kitchen filled a glass with water and took one last look at the pill before shoving it her mouth.
"SPENCER WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" her brother Jason sped across the barn and knocked on Spencer's back, the pill shooting out her mouth.
"why didn't you tell me?" Spencer burst into tears and hugged Jason.
"how d-did you find out?"
"the nurse called to see if she could change your mind." Jason patted Spencer hair.
