Spencer picked at the hem on her light blue shorts. It was summer and the temperature in Rosewood had soared.
The skies had no clouds, the trees had fresh green leaves and everyone was melting.
It also made everyone very irritable and the Hastings were no exception.
"Peter just calm down." Veronica aid trying to calm her husband
Summer was generally everyone's favourite time because it means no school but for Spencer and the Hastings it's different.
The Hastings have a high reputation and this time of year was finding out the exam results.
Spencer was to get nothing less than an A but this year she'd got a B in biology. Now her parents were fighting and it looked like Spencer would be stuck inside the entire summer.
"What do you call this Spencer?!?! B? A freakin' B!!!"
"Dad calm down, please. It was a really hard test no one got higher than me anyway."
Peter shook his head in dissapointment.
"Go to your room, I don't want to see you for the rest of the week."
Spencer turned and ran up the stairs, tears now spilling out her eyes. When she reached her room she packed her bags.
If her dad didn't want to see her for a week she'd stay with her friend Emily.

Spencer knocked lightly on the door, her best friend Emily Fields opened the door with a smile but it quickly faded. When she saw her dishevelled best friend she opened her arms.
"Spencer what happened?"
"My parents don't want to see me, my dad's so mad because I got a B in biology."
Emily pulled away and looked at Spencer's bags.
"Please Em. Hanna's in La with Caleb, Aria's with Ezra and Ali and Jason are having a cousin trip to London."
"Spence I-"
"Hey Em I got the hot water wo-oh sorry for interrupting."
Before Emily could finish her sentence, a boy around the same age as them hopped down the stairs in just a towel. He was ripped and had a buzz cut. His eyes were crystal blue, Spencer couldn't take her eyes off him.
"Uh Toby this is Spencer, one of my bestfriends I met through school and Spencer this is Toby, my bestfriend from the Hattie program. He's staying for the summer."
"Nice to meet you." Toby walked to the door and stuck out his hand, Spencer shook it not wanting to let go.
Emily coughed and they broke apart. Emily's mom, Pam Fields walked into the hallway and stopped when she saw a puffy red eyed Spencer.
"Spencer? Is everything alright?"
"Um mom is okay for Spence to stay awhile, her parents flipped out about her grades."
Pam nodded and gestured Spencer for a hug, she excepted as she really needed it.
"I'm sure they can't be that bad Spencer, your a smart girl."
"I only had one B and the rest were A's but they flipped out."
Spencer pulled away and Toby handed her a tissue from the book case in the hallway.
"Thanks."
"Well your parents may not be proud but you should be. As long as you tried your best that's okay."

Spencer turned the next page of girl online by Zoella. Her Friend Hanna Marin had challenged her to read as many modern books this summer and in return Hanna would read Spencer's books.
