Autumn never liked her name. The kids at school used to call her 'Fall' because they thought they were so clever. Ironically enough, Autumn's favorite season was winter. Although it was in the middle of the summer, Autumn still found scents, songs, and books that all reminded her of winter. She had never seen snow before, living in Australia, but she imagined her bedroom as a winter wonderland, considering she had made sure that everything was as white as snow. Autumn even wore light sweaters in the horridly hot sun.Autumn sighs, looking over the many hills and buildings in the distance. She could practically see the heat radiating off of the ground. She pulls her cardigan closer to her body as the wind picks up a bit. Autumn always had the tendency to get cold easily.
She picked up her journal, I guess you would call it, and began finishing a poem in it. It was about how lovely the town looked from so high up.
The cliff she was on overlooked the whole town, maybe even another town also. Autumn had found the cliff when she moved to this area a year before. She would be lying if she didn't think about jumping off of the cliff once or twice, but after witnessing a young man jump off of it about a month ago, she stopped thinking about it.
Autumn finishes her poem, but after reading it she quickly started erasing the words she had put so much thought into.
"Don't erase it. I thought it was good, very well written."
Autumn jumps up and scrambles to retrieve her things from the edge. She turns around, her face flushed.
"Why are you wearing a sweater out here? It's like one hundred degrees," the boy said.
"I'm wearing a cardigan," she corrects.
The boy chuckles and folds his arms. "Let me see your book," he demands, reaching out to grab it.
"Um, no. I'm leaving, now. Bye?" Autumn moves past him, leaving the cliff.
The boy stops abruptly and waves,"I'll see you some other time, then."
How optimistic of this boy to automatically think she was coming back, or even going to see him again. If he does meet her at the cliff, which she goes to almost everyday, that would be considered weird that he would wait for her to come back. Autumn walks home and wonders if she will, in fact, see the nosey boy again.
