A/N: If you are not familiar with northern Wisconsin geography, I apologize. We not only fucked up the actual geography to fit the story better but heavily based it in the smallest town where there is zero information online of it. Also, Anna and Vito, you two are here by force not by choice.
Nobody knows about the town Boulder Junction. The only people who really know about its existence are those who live in Vilas county. Some in upper Oneida and Forest county, maybe. Anybody who has been in Vilas county long enough knows Boulder Junction is the heart of the place. With 1,318 lakes, few of those are used for recreation, while the rest are completely forgotten.
That's the speech everybody in Boulder Junction knows from grouchy senior citizens who claim living in the town is a waste of your life. Most kids never set foot outside Vilas County, so they agree. The ones who have either loved the town or absolutely despised it after seeing big cities. Others just hoped they could leave one day.
"I want to go to Green Bay," Jack sighed, gazing into space during last period. Jack had never been out of his hometown. Actually, no one in the Core Four (C4 for short) except Anna and Vito have been outside of Vilas County.
"If you're into drunk, raging football fans, go ahead," Vito replied flatly.
"No. I want to meet people. Green Bay seems so big and awesome." Jack continued staring into space.
"Green Bay is only big in fall on Sundays. It's a pretty small place. Imagine Boulder Junction multiplied by two," Anna said in her usual sarcastic grumble.
"Oh." The twins broke Jack out of his daydream which he was enjoying immensely. He returned to scribbling last-minute notes from his science textbook.
"Jack, you had all school day to finish those notes and yesterday in class," Jillian scolded. She was the mom of the group, but that remained undiscussed.
Jack responded with flipping her off, which launched them into a full argument about procrastination and respect.
Vito rolled his eyes then looked up through the window in the small classroom. It was a rather scary overcast, promising a thunderstorm. Anna pointed to her phone which had the forecast on it.
"Supposed to rain soon. If we're lucky we can make it to Greer's, but they've been changing the time a lot." Anna jiggled the boat keys in her hand nervously.
At the beginning of their sophmore year, Anna and Vito's dad allowed them to take the 'Usain Boat' to school. The boat name was provided by the twin's grandfather before he decided he was too old to go down to the piers. He taught the twins about fishing and boats, which made Anna as tomboyish as they get.
Their school, Manitowish Waters High School, was ten minutes away from Little Star Lake where Little Bohemia Lodge is. The owner, Mr. Leon, was used to Anna and Vito spending their weekends and summers on the lake chain, so he let them dock there while they were at school.
Manitowish Waters is greatly populated with vacation homes and resorts where the residents would be too snobby to allow two teenagers to dock for eight hours per day. But Vito and Anna didn't blame them.
Every day after school, Anna and Vito would walk the ten minutes to Little Bohemia, usually accompanied by the rest of the C4. Wild Rice Lake, (sometimes called Halfway Lake) was where the twins lived. They traveled through Little Star Lake to Manitowish Lake, then to Alder Lake which eventually led into Wild Rice Lake. After the hour of getting back home, they would dock then walk up to their small cabin to do homework and whatever chores they had to do around the property.
"Can we come up to your house tonight?" Jillian asked Anna and Vito.
The two looked at each other, then Vito replied with, "I don't think that's a good idea. We might have to stop at Greer's Pier because of the weather. And we don't know how long that will take."
