The next few days were cold and stormy and overall unenjoyable for anybody in town. The Core Four didn't bother doing anything together because they knew Boulder Junction would be full of visitors trying to find a place to fish. Another downside to the town, there's a lot of visitors who disturb the peace.
The twins were sleeping in due to the lack of friend involvement. It was around eleven when they finally got up and walked into the living room. Their dad was on the couch and their grandpa in his rocking chair.
"Good morning," their dad said. He didn't look up from his newspaper.
Anna and Vito groaned in response and sat down at the kitchen table.
"What's going on there?" Anna asked.
Vito looked up and saw two people carrying boxes up a steep hill.
"Remember that second house they built over there?" their dad peeked over his newspaper. "A family's moving in. You two might have somebody to talk to around here."
"You guys should introduce yourselves. It wouldn't hurt, the kid might feel better having some friends or at least acquaintances," their grandpa suggested.
"But I wanted to go fishing today," Vito complained.
"Yeah, me too," Anna added. She hated any type of socializing, but if she was held at gunpoint she'd do it.
"Well, maybe you can take the poor kid fishing with you." their dad went back to his newspaper.
"Can we eat first?" Anna asked.
"No," her dad replied, rolling his eyes.
After eating breakfast, which was cereal, as usual, they took their time getting dressed and using the bathroom.
"You two are acting like it's torture. You only need to do it once, then you can forget they exist if they're that bad," their grandpa said after coughing for an unnatural amount of time.
"Do you think if I wear my old football pads and you wear your old hockey stuff, we'll come off as weird and they won't want to talk to us?" Vito asked Anna who was trudging out of the bathroom.
Vito noticed Anna actually put effort into looking somewhat decent. Their dad always told Anna to at least consider doing something with her hair or dressing nicer when meeting new people. She actually did something with her hair but countered that with a Paramore hoodie. Of course.
Vito didn't care at all, so he just wore what he usually does. Shorts and a Lakeville football hoodie from when they visited Minnesota.
"Wow, you don't look entirely like you crawled out of a sewer today!" Vito pretended to be happy but showed he really didn't care one bit.
Anna stuck out her tongue and held up two peace signs. Then she rolled her eyes and whispered, "I fucking hate myself so much for that."
"Language," their dad yelled.
"I didn't say anything!" Anna complained.
"Ready to meet our new neighbors that will hopefully hate us and never speak to us again?" Vito asked, pretending to be happy again.
"Yeah, sure." Anna pushed her shoes on (which were still tied from the last time they were used) and sighed.
Vito sighed as well then said, "I don't like people."
"I wish we were still the only kids here. It's so fun like it's our own Terabithia," Anna said in an undertone.
"Except we don't plan on dying," Vito replied.
