Chapter 2
The Viet Cong were shooting at the second helicopter now. Behind it were the Staff Sergeant, Thompson, Cannon, Josephine, and Johnny. "Thompson, grab the wounded leg, make a make shift sling! Cannon, grab the other leg. Josephine! grab the arm opposite of me! Ready? Lets move! GO,GO,GO! Into the jungle! One mile that's it."
They ran for three minutes, the Viet Cong still at the river, taking what ever weapons they could get their hands on. The five men knew they wouldn't pursue but they kept on running. They reached the mile at five minutes. Tired and panting Johnny asked the Staff Sergeant, "Sarge, I know you're being patched up by Thompson over here but can you spare some energy and tell me your name?"
"Why sure sir. It's Staff Sergeant James Smith Bond."
"Ok Bond, you have a map?"
Reaching into his top left vest pocket, he retrieved a small map, "We crashed at the Song Thach Han, I reckon along the Ho Chi Minh Trail (This part of the trail later called AH16) . Then we traveled a mile East, how do I know, the sun was setting, we ran away from it. The opposite direction of Khe Sanh. So what do we do know?"
"We must reach the river, and find a way to cross it, then we'll have to go over the dame Ho Chi Minh Trail and find a way to get to Khe Sanh. Also, we have to wreck as much of the trail as possible."
"Done, Staff Sergeant, you have a large shrapnel cut, but you can still walk."
"Great, I lost my gun though."
"Just steal one from the trail if any are left behind, which is rare, but used your pistol instead for now," replied Johnny, "Now we just have to walk a mile back. Keep an eye out for VC."
