Isaac and I sat on the grass, waiting for school to get out. We pretty much ditched our afternoon classes.

"So... when do you think you'll leave for San Diego?" Isaac asked me.

All I want is to find Avery as soon as possible.

"Probably tomorrow morning. I want all is for this to be over."

"Well, when do you think you would come back?"

"I'll probably have to stay there for the weekend."

Isaac looked a bit disappointed.

"What is it?"

"Eh, nothing really." He said, flatly.

"Okay, don't lie. I always know when something is bugging you."

"Ugh." He groaned. "I'm scared."

I moved closer and leaned on his shoulder. "What about?"

"A lot of things."

"Like what?"

"I'm scared we won't have enough time to find your sister and that there's a possibility that Derek might not even be alive! I'm also worried about you going down to San Diego alone." He said, hugging me.

I wrapped my arms around him. "Hey, hey, don't worry about me. I won't be that far."

He pulled away. "I know, but still. I can't help it". He said with a sad smile. "And as for Derek, no one really knows if he's alive. All we have is Gillyan's word."

"That may be true, but we just got to have faith." I told him, holding his face.

Eventually, the bell rang, and students swarmed out of the school.

I saw Allison walk towards us.

She gave off a weird vibe around Isaac and I.

"Hey, Allison. What's up?" I asked her.

"Yeah, hey." Isaac added.

She looked at us before speaking. "Uh, nothing. You weren't in class earlier. I was a bit surprised to see you two out here."

"Oh, yeah. I kinda needed to take the day off. My parents want me to go back home by this weekend and... I'm just processing some things."

She made a face, as if she was up to something. "When do you leave?"

"Probably tomorrow."

Allison seemed... happy? I think I saw a smile.

"Aw, that sucks." She said, giving me a hug. "Well, I'll miss you."

She's going to miss me for the next couple of days? I haven't hung out with her in weeks. Maybe she wants to do something next week.

"Thanks, I guess?"

"Anytime."

She walked away and flashed a smile at Isaac.

"What was that about?" I asked him.

"What?"

"The smile?"

"I don't know, Emily, it was just a smile." He replied.

I crossed my arms. "Okay, but it was a flirty smile. Not the type you give your grandpa or friend for that matter." I rolled my eyes.

Isaac sighed. "I'm not going to fight with you over a stupid smile."

"Alright I'll let it go if you answer a question."

"What's your question?" Isaac asked without hesitation.
