The Perks Of Being A Babysitter

7- Late

"Mum I have to go now .i'll see you later"I planted a small kiss on my mums cheek and she returned a smile along with a"i hope you have a good day today .Be good. I'll call you after school"I bounced up from the sofa abruptly and returned to the hallway .

Rushing to put my black converse on ,i grabbed my phone and put on my backpack .The moment i opened the door i sped out .The slight breeze and hidden sun made their commencement-spring? pfffff 

I crossed the roads not bothering to look at whether or not cars are coming.Luckily school wasn't that far away.Gasping for breath ,I reached the busiest road which had cars zooming past in a blur and though i was temped to run straight across it ,i wasn't as risky to do that .i Pressed the push-to-walk button and while waiting ,i regained my breath and pulled my phone out of my jean pocket 

8:34am

i had 1 minute to get to school or else id be put in a detention.The cars had stopped as the beeping signalled for me to make my way across .I ran .I could see the school roof above the houses on the street -will i make it ? I continued to run ,more viciously this time .I probably look really stupid right now ,stepping harshly on the pavement ,the straps of my bag slipping .You know in movies where someone is running and the wind makes their hair frame their face perfectly ,when they are able to style it out and still look good? well i felt like the opposite right now .

I slipped through the school gates and watches as people started abandoning their cars .I felt relieved and unable to believe I got here in enough time WITH some time to spear .I could go to my locker  ,Carla might be waiting for me in the cante...

DINGGGGGGGGG 

oh ,heck guess who's late for the first time?

I speed walked to my tutor which was on the ground floor .The halls were somewhat deserted apart from 2 gothic teenagers whispering suspiciously .I ignored them and continues to make my way to tutor .Relived to have finally made it ,I opened the door ajar and saw that pretty much everyone was already inside but as per usual ,nobody noticed me come in .sure ,two or three people looked up but then looked straight back down at their game of cards uninterested .

"Vivenne ? Why are you late?" Asked Miss Andrews from the cramped desk .There was a hint of concern in her voice as if she was worried .I wasn't the type of person to be late often so I kind of understand her worry .

"Oh I was speaking to my mum and I lost track of time " I replied innocently ,hoping she'd not issue a detention .She continued to sit there and looked like she was contemplating something.

"As much as I don't want to do this ..I'm afraid its school rules ..you have a 15 minute detention in here after school this evening  " she announces ,looking guilty .

"Oh .um okay "I respond before turning my back to her and joining Carla and Kate next to the WW1 display at the end of the room .They were already deep in conversation and only just noticed me as I jerked my wooden chair back .

"hey Vivienne ! Where were you? I waited for you in the canteen but you weren't there so I went to tutor .i hope you don't mind-" 

"Oh no ,no don't worry about it " I replied. Carla faced me and smiled apologetically "so why were you late ?" She asked 

"I was speaking to my mum and I didn't realise what time it was .when I walked through the gates the bell rang "I laughed stupidly .

Kate turned sideways and looked at me with a puzzled look on her face "you haven't seen Luke have you ?"

Looking around the vast room filled with talkative students I didn't spot Luke .His friends who knocked for him on Wednesday were here though and were taking typically to each other .where was Luke ?

"No, I have no clue " I replied 

"What do you have first today ?" Carla asked 

"Oh...physics " I reply .Physics was definitely my favourite subject - I loved anything do do with maths ,equations ,energy ,frequency ,volts ,circuits ...

I'm such a nerd,I know 

"I have maths so I'll wait for you outside " she replied ,smiling generously .Almost as if she could tell when the bell was going to ring ,seconds before ,she stood up and put away her phone and revision book in her school bag .

The bell rang ,abnormally piercing ,and caused the talking to die away .Everyone was on their feet and did the same thing as Carla ,only a few seconds too late .Carla ,on the other hand ,was already out of the room before anybody else .

On cue ,people walked out and some voiced a "bye miss" to miss Andrew's .it would have been a struggle getting through the door as it looked like a mosh pit .So to avoid it ,I held back and was going to be the last one to leave until Miss Andrew's walked over and motioned for me to stop "Vivienne ,mind handing this to Luke for me ? He's in your Physics class ,is that right ?"

Confused,I looked down at what she had handed me .it was a letter .In the centre it said 'To the parents and carers of Luke Eton '

"Um ..yeah sure okay" I replied .She smiled and thanked me before proceeding back to her untidy desk .I left the room in a hurry ,not wanting to be late again .There were still plenty of people in the hallway -year 7's comparing timetables ,older years swapping notes secretly ,a couple making out in the corner (gross!!).I felt at ease as I strode to Physics no longer in a desired rush .

The strong smell of chemicals wafted through my nose as I walked past 3 science labs .My class was the one at the end of the hallway and as I drew closer ,the smell decreased and the regular smell of socks and air fresheners took over .It was a smell that I was use to so I didn't bother complaining .

My class were already inside even though ,to my relief ,the bell hadn't gone .The teacher -a bald chubby guy with Harry potter glasses- was trying hard to work out how to play the PowerPoint .He looked frustrated but fortunately a small boy went over to help him .

Justin .He was the boy that everyone knew mainly due to the fact that he knows everything ,and I mean EVERYTHING ,to do with computers ,phones ,camera's and tablets .He apparently built his own computer at home from scratch .Nevertheless he was the smartest kid among the whole year group and possibly the school because he was once seen helping year 11's with homework .If he were to do his GCSE's now he'd pass all of them with an 8 or 9 .He was that smart .

On the other end of the room ,people were rushing to get the best equipment to do a practical .As usual ,I would wait until everyone was gone even if that ment I'd get the worst equipment .it's either that or getting squashed.

I took my seat at the back of the room next to my usual lab partners Amy ,Mickey and Luke .Except Luke wasnt here .

All the practical equipment was already on the table so I sat next to Amy waiting for everyone else to quiet down .The teacher did the register before we all started to do a solar panel test using a lamp .It was fairly straightforward and didn't require much thinking .

15 minutes later we finished .A few groups were still working so I tuned to Amy and began talking -"hey"

"Hey "she smiled 

I smiled back forcefully while deciding what to say next as I'm terrible at starting conversations .But to my reassurance ,she looked up again "where's Luke?"

"He wasn't in tuto-"

Almost spontaneously ,the door opened and in strode Luke .
