I woke up with a start, and a stinging in my left leg.
I looked up to see my mom in her apron as if she was working all night, with a worn out flipflop in her hand, hitting me continuously.
"Wake up Rick!" My mother calls me that when she is frustrated or stressed.
"You are going to be late for school!!" I didn't really care for being late because it's not like there is anything I'm looking forward to anyways. I got up anyway.
My mother stopped hitting me and walked out of the room.
Mom had been very frustrated and depressed lately since "it" happened.
My father was at work. He enjoyed his work very much. He worked with special children.
My father was an amazing man.
On his way back, he was crossing the road at a four way stop, and a eighteen wheeler came straight at him and t-boned him.
He died instantly.
We were very happy when my father was alive, we had everything a happy family could dream of.
But, when we heard the news, my mother started slipping into depression.
She lost her job and we lost most of our money.
Thanks to me, I got a job at a sandwich restaurant. I get a decent amount of money there to keep us going.
Anyways, I slowly stumbled out of my small bed and over to the dresser.
I pulled out a black t-shirt and a pair of blue denim jeans.
I slipped them on and rushed downstairs to meet my sister Aimee. She's twelve.
She was eating a small bowl of cereal.
"Would you like me to make you a bowl Ricky?" She said with a smile. She's very nice, especially in the mornings.
"No thanks!" I replied, as I threw on my back pack and laced up my navy blue runners "I think I'll pass today."
I kissed her on the forehead and waved goodbye as I walk out of the door.
She means the world to me.
I walked out onto my doorstep and saw the bus pull up.
"Great timing" I mumbled to myself.
I got on and sat in one of the front seats. No point in sitting in the back unless you have friends, right?
The bus came to a stop. We pulled up to the school and I was the first one out of the bus.
I speed walked into the school with no intention to talk to anyone... I reached my locker and undid the lock.
Just as I was about to open it, my friend Alex comes up behind me and 'tazered' me.
I turned around.
"Alex, I already told you to stop doing that!"
He giggled "Sorry! " he said with a smile.
"Hey Rock."
He called me that ever since we were kids.
He continued, "I need to talk to you about this awesome party!"
I said, "You can tell me after, I got to go."
"Fine!" He sighed and turned around to walk to his class.
I turned back around to my locker and opened it wide.
A small note came out and fell on the floor in front of my feet.
I was extremely confused because I think - "why would anyone give a note to me?"
I picked it up and read it silently.
'Ricky Bane,
You and five others have been selected to join The Campfire Of The Outcasts.
This Friday at 8:00pm, come to 273 Kentonany Drive. Go around back, where a fire will be ablaze.
You will find a place there.
We have one rule: You mustn't tell anyone about The Campfire Of The Outcasts. If you do, this operation will be shut down forever. Never again to help a single person.
If one member does not follow this rule, all members of the group will receive a note in their locker, explaining that the meetings are over.
This will be a weekly event, every Friday at 8:00pm, come to this address and join the other five people selected to come.
If one night you come to the fire and it is not ablaze. The meetings are over. The campfires will have ended.
We hope you will come and join The Campfire Of The Outcasts.
-Anonymous Group'
"What?" I muttered to myself.
"That's weird... Maybe I should go, it's not like I have anything better to do with my life..."
I walked to my class, still thinking about that note.
