I slowly opened my eyes and felt my head pounding. The light was blinding me so I gave my eyes time to adjust. By the time I had awoken, I heard a familiar voice.

-"Oh, good morning (Y/N). Are you feeling okay now?" I turned my head to see Mero at my side with a worried expression.

-"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little blunt force trauma, nothing I haven't felt before." I said.

Admittedly, Mero was weird when we first met. But now she seems to be a lot more normal for some reason. Maybe she's gotten habituated to me? Hell if I know, she's still a mystery to me anyway. I sat up slowly from the couch and grasped the back of my head, still pounding.

-"Mero, is there any ice I could use?" I asked.

-"Of course, I'll get it for you!" She said, rolling to the kitchen.

Now that I look back, she doesn't seem like a bad person. Just a little bit too intense once she's in fantasy mode. She returned shortly with ice in a bag.

-"Thanks Mero." I said.

-"Not a problem." she said.

I noticed something particularly strange. It was almost silent in the house with only the ventilation making noise.

-"Where is everyone?" I asked.

-"Apparently Papi and Suu went out so Danna-sama, Miia and Cerea went to get them." Mero said.

Is Papi a trouble maker? Or is it Suu that does that? I'm pretty sure monsters here aren't allowed to just walk free wherever they like, kinda like Nekos in Canada. Meh, whatever. If there's already three people out to get them, there's no reason for me to go. Still holding the ice to my head, I stood up and headed upstairs. As I'm walking down the hallway, I see the door to Kimihito's room open and my curiosity gets the better of me. I peek inside before stepping in. I haven't actually seen his room before. Looks pretty simple. Nothing too crazy in here, just a few posters on the wall. Though, why do I get the feeling Smith put them there? While looking around, I noticed a framed photo on the dresser. I picked it up and felt a bittersweet feeling rush over me. It was a picture of our old squadron during the war. Good fellas and memories here. The faces that stood out to me were Kimihito, Alex, Sam, Patrick, Jake and my own.

-"Damn, rest in peace boys." I thought.

I suddenly felt a pain in my head as images and feelings of the past were displayed in front of me.

...

I remember that day. 6 years ago, when the war was just starting. The group had become friends pretty quick, we all had each others back. But that day...I'll never forget it. We were stationed in South-East Russia, just above Japan. We were standing guard for the unprepared Japanese in case of an invasion. Seeing as Japan was both Kimihito's and Jake's home, they were pretty serious about defending it. We waited for months and months but finally, that one day came. A surprise attack from the hybrids coming from the north. They wanted to get us out of Russia entirely so that they could get to Japan. At this point, the hybrids had gotten Russia to surrender and had also taken a good portion of Asia.

-"Hey, you mind passing those blankets?" Sam asked.

-"Sure, here." I said, handing them to Sam.

-"Dammit man, it seems like this place gets colder every day!" Alex said.

-"Well...welcome to Russia I guess." Jake said.

Seeing as the war had started only recently most of the men were pretty eager to start fighting...including Jake.

-"Man, I tell you boys. If I put down even one of those monsters, I'm going home a happy man." Jake said.
