Divine (Daniel Sahyounie) Chapter 5- Smile In The Rain

May 30th

Daniel's Point Of View

"Here's the last box." Diana informed me, handing me a cardboard box. I thanked her and shut the trunk, running back to the front door of the jail with Diana.

"Daniel, can I give you my cell number? I know what you are going through, I had a daughter when I was young. Sixteen, actually. I love Sam and my life wouldn't be the same without her... But, god was it hard. Nick and I were so young, we thought kids would fix all our problems. I had Madelyn two years later, still it didn't fix anything. Nick left the day Maddy was born. After about six years of being a single mum, I met Jordan, and about four years later, Jordan and I got married and then two years later, had Asher. Then last week, we got Jamie. Sam is sixteen, Maddy is twelve, Asher is seven, and Jamie is two." Diana smiled. "Yeah, yeah, can I please have it?" I asked, and Diana smiled. "Of course. Maybe you and Divine could come over one day, have a home cooked meal." Diana smiled. "That would be great." I smiled.

"Do you have anything for her room?" She asked. "No, none, I just have the empty room across from mine." I replied. "When I adopted Jamie, I thought I was getting a girl, not a boy. I got a whole room of stuff for girls, only to have a boy come. I just didn't have the heart to give it away, so I kept it. And Jamie is the LAST kid that I will ever have, so I want you to take it." Diana explained. "No, no. I can not accept that." I shook my head.

"Daniel, it's okay. It was something my millionaire family bought me, as a 'You are Thirty Two And Still Having Kids?' thing. It's adorable, but I want to smash everything in that storage unit. Plus, I have to pay for the storage unit. Ah! It's perfect." Diana squealed, she noticed my hesitant look.

"Our family won't miss it at all, we could even get it done tomorrow, it's supposed to be sunny, and I can get Jordan, Maddy, and Sam to help us and you can get some friends, we could get it done in time." She smiled. "Thank you so much." I smiled. "Yeah, maybe Jordan can bring over some of his parenting books and Sam can put aside some days to take care of Divine if you need a break."

"In the meantime, the car seat is the last thing, actually. It's just inside. My number is 701-8899, you can send me a text or something." Diana smiled, I added her number to my contacts, before putting my phone back up. "Let's go back inside and get Divine out of this place." Diana smiled.

We went back inside, Jai and Divine were sitting on a bench. "I forgot to tell you, the first couple days, she'll be really clingy. Let her sleep with you, hold her, let her sit in your lap. Jamie was the same way, they get over it, but they have to know that you are right there and they aren't going anywhere, that that is their home." Diana explained, handing me the car seat. "Thanks, again. It means so much."

I walked over to Jai and Divine. Jeez, that was a long two hours. "You guys ready, we can go pick up some food, then go home." I said, Jai looked up and smiled, then stood up. Divine stood up too, zipping up her floral raincoat.

"Can you hold me?" Divine asked, I nodded and picked her up, putting her on my hip. Jai noticed my struggle and grabbed the car seat. I smiled and thanked him.

It was pouring rain, we stood, watching it, still under the safety of the building. Divine held her arm out, letting the rain hit her arm. It was pouring so hard, I felt like the rain would take her arm off. She laughed. "Mummy always hated rain, but it's my favorite thing."

"I like people who smile when it's raining."
