1st place winner for prompt: Secrets
You had a little bit of a secret.
Well, you doubted it could be considered ‘little’, really.
It started when you got a mysterious app on your phone. You’d tried to delete it multiple times, but it just ended up returning. You were told by a mysterious man that it would allow you to enter the hearts of those with twisted desires, and you could change their hearts by stealing their Treasures and defeating their Shadows without killing them.
So naturally, you accepted. You were bored enough of life anyway, so having a little danger in your life would be fun, wouldn’t it?
That was part of it, but the other part was the mysterious mental shutdowns occurring around Seoul.
A man would be driving, and then all of a sudden his eyes would roll into the back of his head and he’d either die on the spot or make the car crash into others. There seemed to be no clear cause, nor was there a clear pattern. Whoever was doing it seemed to be doing it just for the sake of causing chaos.
You had a little suspicion it was probably because of the other world, which you decide to call the Metaverse.
But it wasn’t the type of thing you could tell other people about. When would it ever be? You were what other people would call a “goody-two-shoes”-- the perfect student, who always knew the answer to questions that teachers threw at you and got good scores on your tests.
But you didn’t like standing by and watching corrupt people take the reins of society, so that was at least something you could do to break out of your “goody-two-shoes” stereotype. In the Metaverse, you were somewhat free. You worked exclusively alone, so you had time to yourself and your thoughts.
“... has admitted to his crimes against his workers… news reports show that he was given a calling card by the mysterious Phantom Thief… needless to say, they are on the hunt again.”
You looked up from your homework, smirking a little at hearing the news. You were proud of that last heist.
But that pride faded as you looked back down, remembering what his Shadow had told you.
“A man in a black mask,” you said to yourself quietly. You’d had the suspicion you weren't alone in the Metaverse for quite some time-- you had an almost constant paranoia that you were being watched.
You heard the sound of a chair being pulled across from you, and you looked up to see your boyfriend Min Yoongi sitting down.
“Hello,” you said. Yoongi smiled a little.
“Hello to you too,” he said. He looked across to your homework. “Precalculus, I see.”
“Mmhmm. I’m trying to get it done so I don’t have to do anything over the weekend,” you replied. That was part of the truth-- you were really doing your homework so you’d be able to fight the next target you’d picked without worrying about the answers to your textbook questions.
“Ah, I see. Holding up to your goody-two-shoes nature after all,” said Yoongi in a bit of a teasing tone. You shot him a dirty glare, returning back to your homework.
“You and I both know how much I hate that,” you grumbled. You paused. Should you mention… “You see the news about that Phantom Thief?”
“I did.” Yoongi seemed to grow tense. “And I don’t like it. They should just leave these things to the authorities. It’s not their place to decide who’s good and who’s bad.” He clenched a fist so hard that his knuckles turned white-- then he sighed.
