"I've got no strings to hold me down, to make me fret, or make frown. I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me!"
I stacked a pillow on my fort, singing.
"Hi-ho, the me-ri-o, that's the only way to go. I want the world to know, nothing ever worries me."
'Nothing ever worries me.'
"I've got no strings, so I have fun, I'm not tied up to anyone. They've got strings, but you can see, there are no strings on me!"
I finished the small tune, slowly ending the dance I was unconsciously doing. Soft clapping suddenly came from behind me, and I whipped around to see Evan standing in the doorway of my bedroom, smirking slightly.
"How long were you there?" I asked, shocked that I didn't hear him come in. Evan shrugged, walking in and taking a seat on the floor. He was wearing jeans again, with a clean black T-Shirt, flaunting his muscular arms.
"Long enough to see your little play." He replied playfully, smirking.
"Oh."
I lowered my head, going back to fretting with the makeshift fort I made. Don't get me wrong, it's not liked I'm super embarrassed by the fact that him, of all people, was watching me sing awfully off key of a dumb song from Pinocchio, a Disney movie for Christ's sake. No, not at all. I'm not dying of embarrassment, you are.
"You weren't awfully off key, in fact you sounded pretty good. Also, it's not a dumb song from a dumb Disney movie, it's a rather catchy one from an amazingly animated movie for its time." He spoke aloud, causing me to turn towards him with wide, shocked eyes. Evan noticed my shocked look and tilted his head, confused. "What's wrong—"
"What the hell!" I yelled, slamming him in the face with a pillow. Evan froze up as the pillow hit him, his face contorted in shock.
"What was that for?" He huffed, bending down to pick up the pillow but I snatched it away from him, clutching it to my chest.
"That was for reading my mind!" I hissed, anger surging in me like an ocean in a storm. My hands shook and I felt a flutter of fear inside me at what he might have heard but pushed it away in fear of him doing it again.
"What—oh. Jace I'm sorry I didn't mean to it's just something I do when my mind wanders, I didn't even realize." Evan apologized profusely, spreading his hands out. I sighed, sinking my head into the pillow.
"Fine. I accept your apology,"I huffed, my voice muffled in the pillow. "But," My head shot up, hair flipping back, "If I'm going to be seeing you everyday, sadly, if I might add, I would like to set some ground rules." Evan nodded, tilting his head as a small smirk played on his lips. 'Stop that.'
"Rule number one," I held up a finger, " Don't ask about Silver, you don't want to meet her."'I heard that.' Silver snapped in my head.
'I know you did.'
"Rule number two, if you would like to come into my room, just knock next time. Give a girl some privacy." Evan nodded along, hand on his chin as he considered them. "And finally, rule number three, don't go snooping around in my mind. You stay out of mine and I'll stay out of yours."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Evan questioned, cocking an eyebrow. I smirked at him.
"You won't have to know if you just follow the rules." I replied back, sticking out my tongue. Even rolled his eyes, sticking out his tongue back at me. We sat in silence for a few moments until I added, "Are you going to sit there or help me with my pillow fort?"
Chuckling, Evan got up, grabbing the sheets off my bed and laying down the roof as I finished the walls, unaware of the officials watching us through the cameras.
