Her keys were tossed carelessly onto the kitchen counter, lying there and won’t be picked up for the rest of the day. The kettle sat on the stove, still fill of tea that was made only twenty minutes ago. The TV was the only noise in the lounge, along with the only light. Dan occupied the small chair, mindlessly staring at his laptop scrolling through his media sites. She lay on the couch completely motionless, occasionally drying her tears with his sweatshirt, Phil’s sweatshirt to be exact. She hugged herself tighter and tighter, feeling alone and scared. Yes, she did have her best friend Dan to help her through this tough time and she loved him for doing as much as he could, but she needed Phil right now, more than anything.
"Your tea is getting cold," Dan finally broke the silence and the quiet muffle of the late evening news. She titled her head to look at him, then at her tea. She pulled herself up and took a sip, not taking her eyes off the ground. "It’s uh„ good tea.." she said with a sniffle, and a shaky movement to put her cup back. It got suddenly silent again, which they both knew how much they hated that. So much silence, over a loss. She felt guilty over the whole tragedy, while Dan tried his best to help her out. But she knew there was no hope, she felt miserable knowing that Phil just drove out to get her an engagement ring, and never came back. Head on car collision left the drunk driver of the other vehicle dead, but Phil still fought. Dan got the phone call and drove her to the Emergency Room, but there was still no hope.

"Please don’t leave me, Phil…" she begged, having both his hands in hers, letting her tears fall with ease for now. "I’m sorry my dear, I guess it is my time." Phil told her, using all his energy to say his last words to her. She bent over to hug him, holding him as tight as she could without hurting him too much. "Remember to be Brave for me. Don’t give up just yet," he whispered into her ear before giving her a kiss on the lips one last time, and letting her go. Dan took her place where she stood in front of Phil. Dan hugged his best-friend once more, "I love you, Phil. Remember that." Phil soon had tears in his eyes "I love you too, Dan. Look out for her." Dan nodded, and Phil let go, and his eyes fluttered shut, leaving the two friends to their tears.

She was brought back to the present after the horrible remembrance of last night. Her heart was shattered, and her mind was nowhere. She then heard footsteps down the hall, and she turned her head to see Dan walking towards her, with both hands behind his back and a small but fake smile. “What do you have?” her voice finally decided to work. Dan took a seat next to her and handed her something she would have never thought of. It was Lion, Phil’s favorite little stuffed animal he always had behind him in his videos. To her surprise, it was also the engagement ring from Phil in Lion’s hand. “He wanted you to have him,” Dan finally said, putting the ring on her finger. “He really loved you, I could tell.” With a kiss on the forehead, and hug so tight it could kill, the friends cried over their loss and talked of all the good times.
She soon fell asleep and Dan carried her to her and Phil’s room, placing her on the bed and leaving her to sleep. She still smelt the sheets as they smelled of Phil’s light cologne. It's all she needed, but it's not what she wanted.
