*Your POV*
"Hey bud, are you sure you want to wear your Nova shirt today?" I ask Alexander, knowing that Tom wasn't yet aware that his son recently switched favorite superheroes.
"Mom! Nova is the best!" Alexander, our son, whines as he stomps his feet. I shake my head and smile, picking him up and carrying him into the living room so that he can get his shoes on for the day at the park. Tom comes out of our bedroom wearing a plain gray T-shirt and jeans. He smiles at me, and I finish helping Alexander put on his shoes. Alex is only 5 and he keeps trying to push my hands away, convinced he can tie his own shoes. Tom doesn't notice the Nova shirt until we exit the front door.
"Buddy, what happened to Spider-Man?" Tom pouts, pointing to the shirt, and his son grins.
"Nova is so much cooler than Spider-Man, Dad! His suit is dark blue and gold! Plus his last name is the same as my first name! Sam Alexander!" Our son justifies. Tom stares at his son, completely stunned. He then turns his gaze to me, as if asking me to "help him out here". I shake my head and laugh, holding Alexander's hand as I lead him to the park. Some paparazzi catch us walking down the street, and Tom points to his son's Nova shirt and pouts at the camera. They eat it up.
"I can't believe my son's favorite superhero isn't even his own dad." Tom whispers to me once we are at the playground. We watch Alex climb up onto the monkey bars, and Tom being the protective dad he is, hovers closely. I stand right next to him, and wrap my arm around his back, soothingly scratching it. He relaxes into my touch, and I lean against him. He pulls me closer and sighs.
"You're still my favorite superhero." I whisper back. He grins and kisses my forehead.
"Thank you, baby."
I wait a few moments in silence before adding, "I bet you'll be our daughter's favorite superhero too."
The information seems to go over Tom's head for a moment, before he turns to me wide eyed. "What did you say?"
"You heard me."
"It's a girl?! How did you not tell me this earlier?! When did you find out? Why wasn't I there?" Tom began ranting, turning to look down at me, his hands gently resting on my pregnant tummy. He was highkey freaking out. I giggled.
"Well I wanted to surprise you..."
"Oh my god! We have to do a gender reveal for our friends and family! Harrison is gonna flip out! My mum is going to be so excited! Oh my god, I love you!" Tom shouts, kissing me deeply. He's so caught up in the moment, that he forgets to watch our son. Alex let's out a cry, and we both immediately look in his direction. Tom runs over to him, drops on one knee and begins accessing Alex's scraped knee. He'd fallen while running. Alex begins to sniffle as tears fill his eyes. Tom looks so serious as he pulls out a Spider-Man bandaid and puts it on Alex's knee. Alex continues to sniffle, and Tom picks his son up and holds him against his chest. Alex wraps his arms around his dad's neck and whimpers into his shoulder. I rub Alex's back to calm him down, and eventually his crying subsides. Tom kisses him on the head before putting him down. Alex looks carefully at the bandaid, studying it.
"Spider-Man isn't so bad, I guess." Alex decides as he runs his tiny fingers over the bandaid. This makes Tom grin proudly, even though he tries to hide his excitement.
