Robots.
Often deemed one of man's greatest successes and creations, robots are able to mechanically carry out simple or complex actions automatically, making the work load for humans significantly lighter.
Although robots can act on their own, and can carry out tasks by themselves, they must follow a strict code.
The Three Laws Of Robotics, created by Asimov, are a set of rules devised to keep robots in check.
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
These laws were made to protect the lives of the robots' human creators, and to keep the robots from finding any loopholes in their programming, while still keeping the robot safe from harm.

Technology advances so quickly, that it seems like no one even has time to blink before the new model of phone or computer or game console comes out.
Today, now, it is so far advanced, that we live in a world that is mainly dominated by robots and machines. At every shop, there's a robot working the register, at every bank there's a robot distributing the money, and at every restaurant there's robots taking orders and delivering food.
It wasn't a bad thing, at least for a while. After the usage of machines kicked in, there wasn't much for humans to do other than relax and give the robots orders.
It was like a futuristic movie that everyone would've doubted, saying that 'there's no way robots will take our jobs and do what humans do'.
But now, in the year 20XX, our life is like the seemingly unrealistic movie.
I wish I would've been alive back when everything was mostly human-dominated. The only resource that I had to tell me about the time when humans ran shops and production was my grandfather. He used to tell me about how everything was so different back then, and that everyone from that time never thought that technology would get this far.
He used to say that everything was better back then, because then, humans had purpose. He always said, 'if robots do everything for us, then why are we needed anymore?'
At first, I thought he was talking nonsense. Of course humans have purpose!... Right?
The more I thought of a reason and purpose for humans, the more I came to realize we really don't have a purpose, at least, not anymore. Not since machines started taking over our jobs and tasks.
I constantly tried not to think about it, and it worked for a while, that is, until I woke up one morning for school.

My eyes fluttered open to the sound of my blaring alarm, signalling for me to wake up. I grumbled a little and reached over to my nightstand, feeling around for my alarm clock. Slamming my hand on top of the alarm clock finally shut it off, and I huffed before deciding to get up.
