*Austin's P.O.V.*
Gosh, today was a terrible day. It's Monday and I didn't have Leah to brighten my day. Where was she even at? I thought. I cranked up my old Mustang and listened to the engine roar.
"Hey, I missed seeing your beautiful face today," I texted her at a stoplight. By the time I got home, I had no new messages. I ripped open the front door and then slammed it shut.
"Hey Austin, how was school?" my mom called to me from the kitchen table.
"Shitty," I mumbled as I ran up the stairs to go my bedroom.
"Austin Carter! Stop right there, young man," she called after me. I stopped on a step and looked at her. Her eyes were filled with a sense of compassion but disappointment and I immediately felt bad.
"Sorry," I told her, heading back down the stairs and making my way over to her. I engulfed her in a hug.
"Okay, sit down and tell me what's going on," she said, closing the newspaper. I sat down in the seat directly across from her, my favorite seat.
I started to tell her everything: how I had ditched Taylor, how I was falling for Leah and how I invited her over to watch a movie and how she wasn't at school today. I left out the part about the party, though.
I finally finished the whole story and I looked at her. She looked down at the table and then began to talk. "Well Honey, I'm sorry you didn't see her today but that doesn't mean you can come in, slamming doors and cussing. But Austin, let me ask you one thing...is Leah's last name Williams?"
"Yeah, it is, why?"
Mom just nodded her head. "Austin, her grandfather passed away yesterday," she said, awaiting my reaction.
"Wow, that's awful. And now I feel bad because I was making it all about me..." I said after a while, breaking the silence.
"Don't feel bad for yourself Austin. You just have to be there for her," she told me.
I took in her words. "Well, I'll go to the funeral home and see her. What does it say in the paper?"
"It's tonight, so take a shower and get ready," she told me before I headed up to my room.

"And girl I hate this feeling, but it's not going away...I think I'm in love with you and I can't help myself," I sang along with Chris Brown. I unbuttoned the buttons on my polo, only to button the bottom one again. I tucked the bottom of the shirt into my khakis and then slipped my belt through the loops.
I finished getting ready and I grabbed my keys, heading down the stairs. "Mom?" I called out.
"Huh? What is it?" she said, pulling the phone away from her face. "Oh one second, Austin," she said, talking back into the phone. "Yeah, Lisa I'll leave the house in a few minutes...okay...okay...yeah, bye." She said, then putting the phone down on the table. "Well you look nice, Austin," she told me.
"Okay, good 'cause that's what I was coming to ask you. I guess I'll head out. I'll be back sometime tonight," I said and turned to walk towards the front door. "Oh, yeah," I remembered, "is there a flower shop that's still open? I wanted to get Leah some." My mom gave me directions to a floral shop and I headed on my way.
