Erik groans and moans and starts to wake up. Ivory, who is lying on the bed, watching him with a smile, giggles at him.

There’s a knock at the door, and a woman’s voice calls, “Room service with your breakfast.”

Ivory gets up and looks through the peep hole. She sees the nice looking lady with a steaming tray, so she opens the door, gives her a tip, thanks her, closes the door, and puts the tray on the table.

Erik wakes himself up and adjusts his senses to the light of the new day. His nose fills with delicious smells and he smiles with delight. “What’s that smell?”

Ivory giggles, “It’s breakfast. I got room service. I hope you’re hungry!  I know we didn’t really eat much yesterday. I’m used to not eating for a while, but I didn’t know about you, so I ordered what sounded good. I hope you don’t mind.”

“No not at all. I’m starving actually.”

“Well then come over here and eat silly.”

He chuckles softly at her charming optimism, then goes to the table and joins her for breakfast, “As you wish, my sweet Ivory.” He says with a smile. Her cheeks turn the color of fresh Valentine’s Day roses and she grins before taking another huge bite of waffles. She gorges herself with the food on her plate, taking in all the wonderful food. He starts eating and does his best to keep his table manners and everything presentable.

She notices him doing best to be proper and she smiles and giggles at him, “You don’t have to be proper. I don’t mind!”

He blushes with embarrassment, “Alright” and then he starts to eat his way: Elbows on the table, forget cleanliness, loads of butter and syrup.

Ivory bursts out laughing, “You remind me of my older brother. When we’re allowed to eat, he always eats like you. Course, that’s only when Mr. Jacobson wasn’t around… of course that wasn’t very often…” she sighs and looks out the window, “I miss my brother…” She looks down at her feet, “He ran away before I did. He told me that when I got out, I had to find him. He gave me a piece of paper, told me to memorize what was on it, and then told me to burn it. He left before I got the letter from dad. I have to find him and then we can find dad. Together.”

Erik looks at Ivory with sympathy and then places his hand on hers, “We’ll find them. Both of them. I promise.” She smiles and as she does, he notices a drop of syrup on her cheek and chuckles a little, “You got some syrup on your cheek.” He casually leans forward and licks it off her cheek.

Ivory’s hand tingles from the warmth of his and her heart beats a million times faster when her licks the syrup off her face. After all the years with Mr. Jacobson, her instincts told her to run, but her heart told her to stay. Still stunned all she can manage is a week, “Thanks.” But in her head she thinks, “He could have used his napkin… but it was so kind and…” She couldn’t control herself. A tear rolled down her cheek and a she kissed him.
