I woke up to my annoying ringer on my phone blaring from my nightstand. Rolling over to sit up gave me a dizzy spell. While I struggled to push my hair from my face I reached for the obnoxious device. Stumbling to reach it I stretched a little father and of course I fell. Hitting my head against the corner of the nightstand and having one foot up on the bed gave any chance I had of going back to sleep away. Not bothering to move I reached up and pulled my phone down to me by the charger cord. Yes I am that lazy.
"Hey sleeping beauty awakes. I was beginning to think that you had your ringer off". The smooth voice of Jacin....already nagging me.....at...what time is it?
"Shut up Jay, I'm tired and not a morning person."
"So I can tell but I bet I could change that."
"Doubt it."
"Bet"
"What do you want"
"Meet me at the coffé and I'll buy you a coffee."
"Why?"
"Why not?"
"I'll be there in a few.....I guess". Before he could reply I had already hung up. Jacin. My random but much needed hero. He was cute I have to give him that. He was tall, built, with green eyes and red frizzy hair. Getting up and seeing my hair in more tangles that my earbuds get in after I pull them out of my jean pocket I mentally groaned and picked up my brush. Today was going to be long. I could just feel it.

Walking through the doors of the place that has kept me alive through these past couple weeks I got a gut feeling that what is about it happen isn't going to be good. I looked around Jacin but the ginger was nowhere to be found. I walk towards to shelves, a habit that has came from the many, many rainy days spent in a corner reading by the window. After pulling a book from the lowest shelf I wandered to my normal spot at the window.
"Hey, Rebel, whatcha doing?"
As much as I don't want to admit I had jumped like a cat next to a toaster. I had already gotten into the worn book in my hands...speaking of which the book was no longer in front of me. I whipped around to see the book in Jacins hands, relieved that it didn't hit the floor but confused how he got the book from behind me.
"Wha_"
"Shhh....come on" I didn't get a chance to ask why or where we were going but he pulled me behind a bookshelf and pointed to a spot where a few books were pushed apart and I looked through it to see the one and only... Barren Kade..talking to a lawyer. Not really out of the ordinary.
"I don't see the point in this?"
"The lady he's with isn't a lawyer, she's from homicide"
"Why would he be-"
"I don't know that's what I was going to ask you, maybe it's about your mom"
"I never told you about my mom..."
"Oh-um-yeah bout that"
"What else do you know about me?"
"I do-"
"How do you know that Mr.Smarta** is connected to it"
"If yo-"
"I've never told anyone about my mom...or Barre-"
"REBEL!"
"...what"
"I know this because I've over heard enough of Barrens lawyers to know why you haven't gone to a court case on your mom, and I've seen enough of your daily visits to know that you're trying to forget something. And the way you reacted when you came in here when he tried talking to you gave me enough prove to know that you're girl that he's trying to hide."
"Hide?"
"Yeah, you could ruin him if your theory gets out. With him trying to win the election, his step daughter saying that he killed her mom? Yea no win for him in that scenario."
"He deserves it and you know it"
"Yes I know this but he can't know that you're trying to tell people"
"I wasn't going t-"
"You are now"
"Oh"

Walking down the street to who knows where at this point with Jacin at my side with his hand lightly around my wrist to guide me. I was thankful for it, after the conversation at The Coffé I've been in a daze. Realizing that I could completely ruin someone's chance for something they've worked so hard for scared me honestly. Having that kind of power over someone's life and not even realizing it made me feel horrible. I was so caught up on the fact that my mom was gone and how it affected me I didn't realize how it could affect anyone else. But I mean my mom is dead, I had a right to know what happened to my mom, but is ruining someone's life worth it?
