Being unconsious is boring. There are no little dreams or images and there is no sound. It's just big, black, and empty. So here I am, still sitting in the terrible world of unconsciousness for who-knows-how-long.

Suddenly, the big, empty world is rattled. To my delight, the black world begins to slowly disappear. In its place, I can see a hazy version of Callan, Sam, and Chase. All three of them look over me with watchful and careful eyes. Sam calls something out, but it is hard to tell because it ends in an echo. It seems to be my name.

The three hazy teenagers slowly begin to clear. Sam calls something out again, and this time I am sure it is my name. Then I'm shaken again.

"Stopit," I mutter. The shaking stops. I blink twice slowly and look at my surroundings. The bumpy rooftop and the soft coffee brown walls tell me that I'm back in my room at the safe house.

"Hey," Callan says softly. "You okay?"

"I think so," I answer. I take a deep breath and run my hands down my face. "What the heck happened?"

"After you ate the pheonix feather, jinn saliva, and salamander scale, you collapsed. Angus told us that there would be a miniature fire burning inside your stomach. He said it would probably kill you," Callan says.

"Yet you let me do that?" I question her. So that what the major consequence was. My death.

"But, hey, you're not dead!" Chase jokes. All us girls look at him in annoyance. In return, he bites his bottom lip and steps back.

"He's right, you're not," Callan says. "After you'd been out for about a minute, your body caught fire. It was honestly kinda scary, cause you didn't wake up. Angus said that you catching on fire is pretty normal during the process. You burned for about thirty minutes, ten stopped. When we drove back here, you didn't move a single muscle. Your head was on Chase's lap the entire drive."

One can't help but look at Chase. He goes back to biting his bottom lip and looks away. We laugh at him, and Callan continues.

"When we got back, Chase carried you in." Again, we all look back at Chase, who answers, "What? Can't be a gentleman without getting the awkward stare?"

We laugh again, and I tell her that I can figure the rest of it out, except for the Fire stuff. "Well, since you lived, it means that there is a very slight chance that you have the Fire inside of you."

"Oh," I murmur. "So I guess ya'll are gonna get rid of me now, huh?"

"Oh, heck-to-the-no!" Sam says. "We've let a little ten-year old twerp put magic inside of you, half of it being dangerous. So we're going to train you to defend yourself."

"Cool," I say. I push myself up to sit against the pillows. "Now there's one question that ya'll haven't answered. How long was I out?"

"About two to three hours. Is that bad?"

"Not sure. So, when do I start training?"

Sam shrugs. "When ever you get your strength back."

"Now?" I ask? All three of them look at me like I'm insane. "Guys, I am perfectly strong."

"Prove it. Stand up," Sam said, crossing her arms. I shrugged and pushed myself out of the bed. Once I am firmly standing on the carpet, I fold my arms.
