          ••• Chapter 13 •••

My life just went from crazy to suck-ish. Right now, the only thing that could make my day worse if I was told that all of my family members had been killed and that I had a few hours to die.

We are all quiet. No sounds escape any one's lips. The sounds of the Percy Jackson movie are not loud enough to penetrate the walls of the shield of silence that Callan, Chase, Sam, and I hide behind.

       I break the silence. "So… like… kill?"

Callan nods silently. She picks up the laptop and places it next to her on the cushion.

"On the upside, no-one knows for sure that you are part of the Keeper of Fire's lineage," Chase says next to me.

"Thanks, that makes me feel so much better," I comment with a roll of my eyes. Chase grumbles and crosses his arms. I bite my lip and turn to Callan. "When?"

She shrugs and answers, "I don't know. But believe me, we sure aren't gonna let it happen."

A light of happiness goes off inside of me, then something crosses my mind and the light dims. How were three teenagers gonna protect me from Death? Three mundane teenagers against a freaking GOD!

Like she read my mind, Sam says, "I'm not so sure, but we've been training for most of our lives. We'll give it our all."

I smile at them. Sam continues. "You're gonna have to too. Which means… more training!"

       Crap, I think.

About three hours later, I'm sitting on my bed in the guest room of the safe house. I look like a soaking wet mop in blue sweat pants and and T-shirt. Not my best look.

Instead of sitting around in the bedroom like a smelly bum, I run to the bathroom for a quick shower. After the shower, I ran back to the bedroom. I pulled on the raspberry sweatpants and jacket with the cute matching tank-top.

Not wanting to go back out in the living room, I jump onto the bed and land on my back. I scoot up against the pillows and look around the room. My eyes land on the bookshelf, and something seems different. Something wider than a book is underneath about three of the Harry Potter books. Something silver.

I get off of the bed and pick up the books to see the object clearly. I do a little tap dance inside when I see what it is. A laptop.

I keep a squeal of happiness inside (I'm sort of an electronic addict). I bring it back over to the bed and open it. My fingers move around the touch-pad expertly to safari. First, I need to check my Facebook.

Dozens of stuff pop up. One of them is a message from Greyson.

Why can't I go in the house?

I sigh. I type in the message box, "Just cuz. Stay with Mrs. Allens."

After I hit the "REPLY" button, I scroll through other messages. One is from Kelsey. She asks me why I didn't show up at school, then tells me the homework and the stuff I have to keep up with. Not that I need it now.

Another message is from my older cousin, Jackson. He goes to my school and is a senior. My mom and Jackson's mom had made him promise to watch out for me and Greyson when we got to O' Sullivan last year, and he's been as awesome and watchful over me and the doofus as any cousin could be. He's a big computer geek that plays football, so his life is kinda strange. His message also asks why I wasn't at school.
