Tick tock tick tock

This time it was me waiting for someone to answer, my leg jittering anxiously.

I was two days late, and I knew for sure they had already found someone.

"B&R Wishes and Memoirs, how may I help you?"

I cleared my throat scared that I'd sound like a cat choking on a furball.

"Hi, this is Violet Dale? I received a call two days ago and-"

"Oh thank god you called! I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to give birth to this child without someone filling in for me."

I held the phone far from my face to compose myself, after all, I was in the living room and mother wouldn't appreciate my hysteric laughing when she was busy tapping away on her computer.

She arched an eyebrow at me from across the room, lifting her gaze up from the screen. I smiled and shook my head before going back to the pregnant lady.

"Oh...well I actually called for the permanent role they were offering."

I heard her sigh and knew that I wasn't the one I would be filling in for her.

"You applied for Willow's spot?"

"Yes."

She sighed in disappointment again, "well congratulations you got in." She said flatly.

I covered my mouth to prevent any squealing and breathed in.

"What about the interview?"

"I don't think you'll need an interview for this job honey, as long as you can put things in order and offer help once in awhile your good."

After I gave her my cell phone number we hung up, and I grinned at my mother.

"Mom I have two news for you."

She looked up and shut her laptop off while readjusting her glasses.

"Are you finally going on a date with that William kid?" She asked.

"What? Mom-ew WILLIAM? NO! I finally got accepted in a job."

She had seemed much happier believing I an going on a date with Will.

"That's one, you said there were two..."

She eyed me suspiciously once I walked over to her and sat on the floor.

"Don't tell me you're pregnant!" She cried.

"Mom-"

"What have I always said to you? Protection before penetration!"

"MOM!"

"At least tell me the father is cute, please. Then I can die peacefully knowing that my grandchild has good genes in him."

"Mom. I'm. Not. PREGNANT." I stated.

She breathed out in relief and smiled at me.

"I'm glad I raised a smart child. Maria was always saying that my kid would be an idiot. But look at her Josh."

I tried not to grin knowing how much these two would fight each other to prove who's kid was better.

It's obvious that I was the better one.

"Mom...remember how you used to have roommates for college?"

Her smile vanished and she stared at me with her poker face not giving anything away.
