Jack and Lydia jumped up when the final bell rang. They grinned at each other and ran out of the classroom. Eventually, Tanith and Taryn caught up with them. Taryn started off. "So what did you think of the idea?"

At lunch that day, Taryn had burst out about wanting to make a band with them. In her reasoning, there were four of them, and four instruments. Tanith had agreed right away. Jack and Lydia were waiting to think of it. They were talking about it all day.

"We think we'll do it. It's not like it can hurt anything. So why not?" Jack said. Lydia nodded, a smile on her face. Taryn started jumping up and down with a large grin on her face. Tanith just smiled.

"Yay!" Taryn said. Jack laughed a bit, seeing her so excited wasn't rare, but it was contagious. Lydia giggled. Tanith smiled larger.

"So who's gonna do what?" Tanith asked.

They all looked at each other. Jack said, "I can play drums."

"I know a little bass." Lydia admitted.

"I can play guitar." Tanith suggested.

"I can sing. That's it. That's what we can do!" Taryn smiled happily. "So now we have our assignments. This is gonna be so much fun!!"

Jack and Lydia said goodbye for now and started the walk to the movies. When they got there, they paid to see a movie and went in to watch it. When the movie was about halfway finished, the doors in the back burst open.

Taryn and Tanith were wearing black clothes covered in straps, and hanging from those straps were swords and guns. The people in the room ran from the two teenagers. They scanned the room, and whem they saw Jack and Lydia staring in dumbfound wonder, they rushed to them.

"We have to go now. You trust us, don't you? We'll explain on the way, come on!" Tanith said quickly and sprinted back up. Another teenage girl, dressed in much the same way, stepped through the door. "I'm Sam. For now, Jack, Lydia, you need to just trust us. Dark things are headed this way, and if we don't hurry-"

She was interrupted by a screech. She drew a large sword and spun about, in a combat stance. Taryn drew an amazingly beautiful intricate bow from nowhere, and Tanith flicked out a throwing knife in each hand. Black, almost shapeless creatures burst through the doors. And chaos broke loose.

Lydia and Jack hid behind Taryn and Tanith. Taryn handed Lydia a gun and said, "Here. Use it. We need the help."

while Tanith tossed Jack a short sword silently in between knife throws. Lydia started shooting. Jack had no idea what to do.

When a creature got close to him, he suddenly had inspiration. He spun the sword about quickly, jumping back a slight ways, then made a swipe at the creatures feet. He left a gash in one of them. The creature screeched in rage and drew a long, blade sword from its body.

Taryn glanced back and saw what was happening. "Jack's got a captain to fight!"

Jack stepped back quickly from the creatures slash, and he stepped into the empty space made by the sword, stabbing the creature quickly several times. The creature snarled again and swiped a heavy backhand. He dropped under it with ease, then jumped back up and sliced quickly at its arms. The one holding the sword fell off. Jack leapt up into the air and delivered a heavy down slash, cleaving the creature in two.

Taryn cheered. When the others noticed how skillfully he had fought, they cheered as well. Sam grinned. "He's a natural! Impressive, Jack. Keep it up!"

Jack nodded.

Suddenly the creatures retreated. In the sudden silence, Jack looked at Sam. "I think we-"

The ceiling shuddered and lifted away. The teenagers grouped close together, watching. Another creature, only massive, lifted a fist to crush them all. Tanith shouted, "Scatter!" and they did. Scrambling out of the way, they got away to feel the rush of air and the shockwave as the fist hit the ground. Jacks instincts were still in control. He ran up a wall, did a high leaping backflip off, and landed on the fist as it rose again. When it was near the level of the head-like area, he leaped onto the head. Tanith called up, "Good idea! Let's take it down!"

When the fist came down again, Tanith and Sam leaped on. Lydia and Taryn stayed below, distracting the beast. Sam, Tanith and Jack stabbed and sliced, chopping their way through the neck. Eventually, the beast began to fall. They leaped off and landed safely away and the five of them watched it hit and melt away.

Sam glanced at Jack and Lydia. "Let's go!" And they took off running.

Lydia looked at Sam. "What were those things?"

"Hadrich, Lydia." Taryn responded.

"Creatures of darkness and evil." Tanith added.

"And the creatures that are chasing us." Sam threw in.
