As I exited the line for the Step-show, I decided to call an Uber...I didn't feel like sitting through it, not by myself. I'd initially planned to attend it with three of my line brothers, but they were all out getting into who knows what with various women that they'd met over the last few days. I loved my line brothers, but they could be exhausting, so I took this opportunity to get some time away from them and link up with my cousin, Marquis. We'd planned on enjoying the Step-show tonight but I really needed to talk to him and I didn't think that the Step-show was the venue for that. He invited me back to his apartment to chill so we could catch up.Trent Williams (Me)
Marquis is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and he attends Wilton State here in Atlanta. We were both only children, so we were like brothers and we shared everything with each other...everything. He was one of the few people that knew I was Gay. Hell, he was Bisexual, so it allowed us to be open and honest with each other. If my line brothers hadn't come up, I would have stayed with him. I hadn't seen him since this past December so it would be good to see him. I needed to get some advice from him.
I called an Uber and within a few minutes, a driver was on his way. As the crowds for the Step-show continued to fill up with Greeks and members of the local community, I was glad to be leaving. I loved watching Step-show performances and I was sure that Plies would put on an amazing show (he was the guest performer) but truthfully, I just wasn't in the mood to be there
As I saw a Red Honda Civic pull up, I heard someone yell my name from behind me. I turned around and I saw CJ, the Alpha that I'd hooked up with Wednesday night. He was with what I assumed were some of his fraternity brothers. I threw a simple nod and with that, I turned back around and I hopped into the backseat of the Honda Civic. The Uber driver was playing Ella Mai's "Boo'd Up" (which was THE song of the moment) and I sat there, trapped in my thoughts.
I'd come up here to Atlanta for the week to bond with my line brothers, but everyone couldn't make it. Only four out of nine of us were here, and I was here with the three that I weren't as close to – my ace, my deuce and my quad. They largely functioned as a unit separate of our line, so throughout the week, I often felt like a fourth-wheel and I hated that shit.
We'd arrived Monday and I was already looking forward to leaving Sunday. They kept disappearing off to events without me (outside of our outing to the 'Happy Hour at Top Golf' event last night) and it was pissing me off. Instead of enduring their bullshit, I made it a point to do my own thing. I'd met a ton of other Greeks and I'd also managed to hook-up with CJ (the Alpha that I'd just seen) Wednesday night so I wasn't doing bad for myself. I wasn't proud of hooking up with him in a bathroom, but I wasn't about to bring that nigga back to my hotel room under any circumstances. My line brothers didn't know about me and I wasn't about to tell them. Opening up to them had the potential to open me up for scrutiny that I just wasn't ready for.
